How to replace a headlight or blinker – Kia Soul 2012

This video is to show you how astonishingly easy it actually is to replace your own blinker in this car.

Some of us are not mechanically inclined or have never been taught how to do simple car maintenance. I always thought anything under the hood was mysterious or complicated. But I also don’t enjoy paying for up to an hour of labor at $80/ hour or more. I know the auto mechanics at the dealership have to make a living, but I’ll save my dollars spent there for the real problems.

The owner’s manual made blinker replacement sound a little daunting, but I have some socket wrenches and decided I could give it a go. After poking around for a minute, I realized that the manual was full of crap. I’m sure that they’d rather all the clueless people like me just take it to the shop and cough up some money.

In the past few years I have learned how to replace my own fuses, battery and lights. This obviously doesn’t make me an expert but it has probably saved me (and a couple friends) a couple hundred dollars in labor. Most of my self-education came from YouTube so I thought I’d try to put this here for the next person like me who Googles, “how to replace a blinker”. 🙂

Where did you get your replacement lights? I need to replace both headlights.

VampCaff says:

Awesome! Thank you so much!

Deslin Sarvis says:

Now that's what's up I do appreciate this that was not exactly what I was looking for but as I watch it I see that you made it very simple very easy.

I didn't look in my manual to compare, but this method also works for 2013. Thanks!

Tim Rice says:

Perhaps you should take a second look at that manual. Those directions are to replace the whole Headlamp Assembly not the Bulb.

KMcCraney11 says:

Oh Linda, those instructions were for replacing the ENTIRE LIGHT ASSEMBLY UNIT! Not just the bulb. I'm glad you didn't take all those front end parts off just to replace bulbs! Lmao

Diane Graydon says:

Omg…thank you…it's -14 degrees today so I was going to take it to a shop..now I'll just ge buy a bulb….thank you again

Louie Nagy says:

Yeah, you had me punk'd for a few moments at the beginning thinking I'd be stripping the car down to its chassis to change the bulb!! It was super easy! You saved me a ton of money and it took less than 15 minutes! Thanks!!

Caleb Turner says:

Sounds like the were telling you how to change the actual headlight housing lol

Felicia Sutherland says:

Thank you for this! This just saved me a whole lot of headache.

WolfHack says:

Appreciate this. I was just looking for a video to compliment the manual, but this makes it way easier.
Edit: felt it worth mentioning the driver side lights are more tricky to get to.

Thank you so much! When I first looked through my manual and saw what a pain in the a$$ it is to change a headlight or blinker on a Kia Soul, I started to do something I've never before done in my life: gauge when I can get away with not using my turn signal in the hope of making the bulbs last as long as possible. I'm not at all happy with the Kia Soul and I have great buyer's remorse, by the way. This takes a tiny little bit of the sting out of my giant mistake of buying this car.
