There is a tool that turns the piston back in. You can buy them online and some auto parts stores have them. Before I bought one I borrowed one from Auto Zone. And why didn't you buy brake pads that had the new shims and replacement parts with them?. And if that back pad was worn all the way down to the metal why didn't you take off the rotor and inspect that for damage?. I bet it needed turning!

If not, would it be possible to know the size (specs) of your vise grips so I buy similar ones? Thank you!

Definitely recommend the special tool for the rear caliper to turn it in.

I believe the center rivet on inside pad should align (slide into) one of the slots on the piston face when caliper is slid back on pads. (reassembled 10.40) Also check slide pin lubrication. Please use the correct piston retractor. (not that expensive) It's fun to collect tools. Ha.

Interesting to see that you have to "Screw" the piston back in. Thanks for showing, it has given me some info' for doing my Kia Picanto. P.s..i would recommend you use a axle stand as well as your lifting car pulley. Also, you could push your wheel that you took off under the car, also as precaution and not a good idea to sit with your leg/s under the car. Good tip about finding a spare wheel/tyre from a breakers yard….much better than trying to learn the puncture kit etc. Thanks again.

Could at least use the cheap tool to screw the caliper piston in, not taking the chance of damaging the rubber seal.
