I’ve seen and Dorman products, they’re simple plastic door clips and
retainers seemed to work fine however when it comes to their hoses and
other major components I would not touch Dorman probably fair to say that
90% of their production is performed in Taiwan , Thailand or China. I think
the best alternative is either fabricating something as his video depicts
or attempting to find a replacement however usually after 15 to 20 years
the manufacturer no longer produces most of these items

Jeylyn says:

i got a 97 zj and i got the transmission lines on the radiator disconected
but i got a auxliry cooler in the front of the main radiator

Nige Mullins says:

Watched this, bought the flaring kit and the hose. Didn’t need the flaring
kit: simply cut off the unions at either end of the hose using a Dremel or
similar and there was already a ‘flare’ at the end of the pipe. Total cost
of repair £2 for the hose (not including the unused flaring tool). Leak
free. Many thanks

Joshua Seymour says:

What size hose did you get? 3/8 inch?

Iwasfreeonce says:

I got the hoses from autozone and oreillys.

The Best Around says:

I wish I knew mechanics like you in my area. Majority of guys just like to
replace parts instead of actually fixing something or finding creative
solutions like this.

Jav A says:

Would plugging the hole on the crimp with a small screw work to stop a
leak. Mine are leaking for the second time after the dealer fixed them the
first time.

young blazer says:

They do sell the whole line for 30 bucks at advance auto or both lines for
100. I have the same problem but mines look like it can screw off an be
replaced easily

Roy Payton says:

O rileys sell the quick connect

Jesse E says:

Hey Brian What Type of Transmission oil do you use for a 1996 jeep grand
cherokee? Is it safe to use ATF + 3 ???

Pikachu says:

@briansmobile1 I just change both of my oil cooler line on Sunday and they
do have it. But my transmission line is all metal. The only way my
transmission line leak is if the gasket are bad only. Like I seen before 6
years ago. On Sunday I finally decide to change it even though it wasn’t
like leak dripping at all it just come out and make the splash shield all
dirty with oil and I hate to clean it every few days or weeks.

briansmobile1 says:

@maddogmatt44 Who knows if it’s stock? No matter what it has the first
thing to do is get under there and do some cleaning around the lines,
radiator fittings, and pan gasket and that will help you find your leak.
Good luck!

briansmobile1 says:

@MileyCyrus192 I DO read the comments and yes- most will have the hole-
it’s main function is to create a way to grasp the fitting during
manufacturing, but it can also serve as an indicator as well. That said not
all manufacturing processes employ this method, but most do.

briansmobile1 says:

Whatever it takes. If something’s in the way remove it. If its easier to
get it from below jack it up.

briansmobile1 says:

Good call. Thanks!

pimppappi702 says:

ill give u 20 bucks if you fix mines i live in vegas

elantra11 says:

@elantra11 lines

RC60618 says:

Napa can make custom hoses, if you did not know.. I also remove the crimp
and the hose will come off, the part the hose goes on is tapered, so the
hose will be snug, and remember to use a HOSE CLAMP

briansmobile1 says:

You can have a hose specialty shop make new ones for you. That’s the best
thing to do- bring in your old ones and a tractor/excavator hose shop can
make new ones.

TheKarinvt says:

Brian, thanks for the video! I have the same issue with my 97 grand
cherokee, gotta replace the line and the hose that comes out of the
transmission fluid radiator. I am just gonna take a look at the dealer
today and see if they have replacements otherwise time to get dirty and see
how can I improvise an alternative repair. Not easy when you are a girl who
likes everything new and tidy :p

t williams says:

how do reconnect a quick disconnect?

daveyco says:

I put Dorman lines on my 89 Cherokee about 3 years ago. The fact that I am
here on Youtube looking for trans line repair should be an indication as to
how long they last.

briansmobile1 says:

@elantra11 Oh good.

jim dandy says:

Yup, it’s a classic ZJ– great job, Brian, you know that little 45 degree
hose on the oil cooler? mine has the smallest weep but i leave it alone, my
5.2 has 130,000 and it runs like new, no oil use, smoke etc. i just changed
the plugs and they are all burning dry and uniform Possibly someone sells
the hoses besides the dealer but your way is a quick fix

MrRoundel says:

I believe that I saw that Dorman Products is selling these replacement
parts. Nice job on the repair.

Andytechie says:

hey, hold the damn camera steady! get a tripod!

briansmobile1 says:

@twilliamsusmc Lubricate the o-rings with the appropriate oil/silicone and
push/twist them together while they are in line with each other.

briansmobile1 says:

@pimppappi702 no dice

briansmobile1 says:

@melsbuzz lol No kidding. I was bent when they came up with torx and NOW
look at all the crazy sockets and bits there are!

briansmobile1 says:

@brokeback712 There’s a special tool called a “quick disconnect tool” they
usually come in a set. You use the second smallest one on these.

Steven Le says:

any advice for removing the quick connectors … I may be bad at this, but
I think dirt has gotten into the line and I can’t get the lines off when I
squeeze and pull.

Chad Smith says:

They don’t make these hoses anymore because it’s easy to do what you’re
doing? Are you serious? Who the hell has all those tools? Not a typical
collection of tools.

Pikachu says:

you may or may not read these comments anymore. but do you think Engine Oil
Cooler line have the same dot that tell you it will leak and get bad.

Scottthesigncrafter says:

Brian, was that a bubble flare or a double flare you used?

Kactapuss says:

Rockauto.com sells both lines for something like $30. Your way might be
easier…
