How To Install A Stereo! | XJ Jeep Cherokee 1997-2001

Finally excited to have some sound again in the XJ after dailying without a stereo for so long! New speakers and a future upgrade to a nicer bluetooth and potentially a double din unit are definitely in the plans maybe several months down the line but for now I hope this helps anyone looking to install a stereo in their vehicle!

My XJ has a crappy aftermarket CD deck in it now, and I'm swapping in a better one that has bluetooth soon. Can I just reuse the wiring harness that the old aftermarket deck used and plug that harness into the back of my new deck? They're different brands. Or do I need to wire it all up anew?

Anthony Bustos says:

Emergency haha I have 2extra wires that are connected like grounds but they are purple and white with black stripes but there's already a black ground

Dude. I feel your pain. I’m in it. Does it work yet? I think wires break in the rubber accordion boot between the door. Brutal.

Hello, So I have a problem with my 2001 XJ Sport, there is no sound, The radio has time and when my dad took it out and hooked it up It worked, so we don't believe it’s the radio. While doing research I saw that a lot of people said there can be bad wiring in the door, we checked the wiring in the door and all the wires were fine, Now I'm not sure where to look. If its a wiring problem I'm not sure where, and all the speakers look good, but I can't promise the speakers are good, it just seems weird for all of them to be bad. Has anyone else had this same problem and were you able to fix it? Thanks in advance for all answers.

Door speaker wires in front doors are always the common problem. You can do both things:
Wire directly to back of stereo
Repair factory speaker wires
