How To Fix torn metal around door latch 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

this seem to be a common issue, and although its a design flaw, its initiated by sagging door hinges, causing the door to strike destructivly each time its closed. this is an easy repair.

They knew at the factory that crap was too thin and yet made it anyway .. But thats smart thats one way to keep people spending and fixing ( busy ) It they made it to last then no one would buy one in the future( not as soon anyway .. You need to watch the " secret of OZ

Thankyou thank you thank you thank you times a million! Crisis averted! i never would have thought of this!

Dan Bertucci says:

Worked great! I had to grind a flat spot onto the washer closest to the striker because it was blocking the path, but it worked out fine. I'll get a little more life out of it before I have to replace that door! Tx again, great idea!

Dan Bertucci says:

Same exact thing on my Dodge Ram 1500. Thanks a lot Trucker!, I'm trying this right now!

They sell a kit on ebay

Not sure how long your repair will last, did this on my 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 with the same issue. It broke again after a few months. Ended up replacing the Door Hinges and installing a Repair Plate. Check out CS Door Repair Plates on eBay for a proper way of repairing the door. Also I ended up grinding the paint off around where the plate will sit and I used Body Panel Adhesive to mount the Plate. It will probably never fail again. Never a good Idea to Half Ass something like this!!!

My star-bit screws won't catch with washers.. Lol what the fuck

Brianne Coya says:

Ryan E says:

So I have had the same issue. But my bolts loosened themselves and now i am missing one. Every parts store picknpull doesnt seem to carry them. Can anybody point me in the direction on how to aquire them? It would be greatly appreciated.

Viper fukgoogPlus says:

or you could just replace the hinge pin which caused it to break in the first place…

Js23187 says:

I have the exact problem. Hopefully this helps

Fast Mechanic says:

You saved my wallet from buying a new $100 door! Thank you mister!

Rodrigo Gonzalez says:

I repaird my door like thaf but how did u get it to showin that the door is open

Don Adams says:

thanks you just saved me a bunch of money

Mike Scott says:

Thanks for sharing. I just fixed mine, I used 5/16 fender washers.

Scott Schoemann says:

not a "design flaw" this is the result of pure neglect and abuse, Neglect from not lubing the door hinge pins and not replacing them when worn, and abuse from slamming the door. No issues oon my white 95 bought new, problem on the black 98 bought used. dont buy after market hinge pins, they are not hardened. pay for the expensive factory pins. The aftermarket pins will have to be replaced so often that it will cost you more in time and parts in the end.

Michael Lawson says:

Thank you, I feel stupid for not thinking of this and I sell the same torx bit set you use in the video!!!

Chris M says:

Some company is selling door repair plates on ebay for this door problem. Seems to be working fine for me going on two years. I also replaced the hinges to fix the cause.

Joe Shmo says:

Thank you!!! I was skeptical about this working but went to Walmart and bought the same stanley star bit set you showed in the video and went to Ace Hardware to get washers and my door actually closes now. An auto shop said I needed a new door….Haha
