I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee with a 4-cylinder, I was driving down the road and you just died, come to the stop and crank back up, and I leaned on the fender with the fuse box and it died. What could be the problem???
Great tip for in car Why are you taking the manifolds off in car to do head gaskets. I just disconnect everything from the manifolds and then pull the head with everything attached.
I had to be a contortionist to get my exhaust / intake back on my 4.0 ….start one bolt with short socket in hand, start another with long socket this that and the other…etc….
I never had an issue doing mine tho, i put the two header bolts is first loosly at both ends, then silde the manifold into position, sometimes it takes a little bit of wiggling, but it will eventually fall right into place after a few minutes, then i put all the rest of the intake bolts in and torque from center outwards, ( it is tight getting the bolts in up from the bottom, but i didnt find it to be too difficult either) definitely not difficult enough to feel like i would have to do this, i thought it was rather simple in fact
If i paid someone to work on my intake and I found out they hammer the casting off of the intake they would be purchasing me a new intake. The is hack work.
I’ve removed the alignment ears or the pins from the head on every intake manifold of my 4.0 projects over the years allows you to thread those bottom bolts in even farther and you just slide the intake into place

Or…. Swap to ARP studs..
Those intake bolts are a pain in the ass!
Had a whistle for the past week and it was cause of those damn lower bolts!
I never thought of using a hammer. I just cut the ears off with a cutoff wheel. Definitely makes it easier to do the job.

The way I usually do it is to put a 2 x 4 under the oil pan, and jack up the motor and undo the driver side motor mount, then you got room
Question can intake manifold

The xj is my dream vehicle
the way I did this was to replace the bots with studs on the bottom makes it super easy to get evrything lined up
Ive done one manifold gasket on this motor and had no issues (w/ a lift at least) gettin em in.
