ZF 6HP Transmission Solenoid Replacement (BMW/Jaguar/Range Rover)

ZF 6HP Transmission Solenoid Replacement (BMW/Jaguar/Range Rover)

This video goes over replacing the solenoids in a ZF 6hp transmission. This DIY is usable for most of the ZF 6HP transmissions : 6hp21 6hp19 6hp26 and other variations. You can use www.thectsc.com to find your part numbers and even to buy solenoids and other transmission components. If you want to purchase them from me, you can do so by contacting me through www.shoplifetv.com

When replacing the solenoids you should also replace the mechatronics sleeves : bridge adapter, valve body sealing sleeves, plug adapter, filter and fluid (only use ZF Lifeguard 6).

I'm about to do this on my 08' 550i One question. Resetting adaptation. Do I have to do that if my trans was fine before or will it learn with the new solenoids in over time? I got code U0101 so I'm hoping the sleeve let some wetness into the connector. But since I'm in there I want to replace what I can so I ordered solenoids as well as Mechatronic kit from FCP. Thanks

Jaydon Dilpickle says:

Can you use Carly for BMW to reset adaptations or can you just drive like a grandma and have the car relearn itself?

Bradley Groenhof says:

I run redline D4 in my 335d with no issues. A vast improvement over the semi synthetic oem fluid. Lifeguard 6 has boron that turns into boric acid as it breaks down and degrades over time. Ill stick with d4

Superb video

Real Deal Baby says:

Maybe you out to show people what to do if they only need to replace one or two solenoids in case of emergency situations and which valve = eds 1 eds2 eds3 etc… There's no schematics online to show someone who might not be a mechanic how to figure out say a code 4e25 EGS: electronic pressure control valve 6… Which is the common one on 5 series e60's like you talked about in the other video. Maybe you should do a break down on the mechatronic itself and explain it in detail since there's no videos out there on it in depth detail. Thank you @ShopLifeTv

Where can i find you to do this job ?

MrNico_e93_335i says:

Thanks, brother and sister for sharing. Hopefully, you will do this to a 7-speed DCT(GS7D36SG) one day. Mine is now on 50t miles and I want to change the oil and both filters in the near future. Dutch regards, Nico.

Hans Noordermeer says:

Thank you for your videos, keep up loading, stay low and go low, Namaste, be safe for th whole family greets from holland amsterdam.

Fraizer says:

great video, how much cost those solenoids ? i have an E64 LCI 635D of mid 2009, i change the filter and all the parts you explain to change except the mecatronic part with selonoids. following the zf procedure and use ista to reset the oil. but i dont reset the adaptation. some people explain to do it but i dont thing is right because the car have 165.000 km and i dont change the solenoids… thank you for the advice 🙂 last queqtion i will program the engine of the car on a stage 2 is risky if i reprogram gear box too ? is an full automatic.

Stefan Smith says:

Omg you're my hero!!!

Get Money says:

That's the problem with all transmissions. The solenoids

Tim Proctor says:

Appreciate the video!! Are these solenoids the same in all the zf line of transmissions? I have 535i gt xdrive with the zf8 are the solenoids the same? Would i need to get 2 solenoid kits since my transmission takes 9 solenoids or 10 cant remember.. . But yeah are they all the same?

Bryan Derksen says:

I recommend removing and cleaning the pistons which sit in the valvebody behind the solenoids. Also, give the hole a squirt of brake cleaner. All that dark fluid contains clutch lining material which can get trapped in those holes and interfere with the movement of the pistons. I was trained to cycle the piston in and out to detect any burrs or interference in the movement. A sticky piston will not be cured by a new solenoid.

Peter Lawford says:

I have enjoyed your videos for a long time but now I have a question.
I own 2 BMWs.
An 06 BMW 550i parts car and wondered if the transmission in that is the same as an 08 BMW 550i.
Your input would be appreciated.
Thank you Peter Lawford.

John Smith says:

I got the GM box in my 2001 E39. ZF has selector switch on the side. GM doesn't.

John Smith says:

Still fat af

DrE38 says:

How can I determine which sensors are the right ones? Something about matching the transmission model? I'm also trying to have the seals inside them changed (not the ones without taking it apart, the ones that you have HAVE to take apart the mechatronics)

thnkbg says:

I replaced mine and still goes into limp mode when 5th or 6th gets get hot..

Jonas Jimenez says:

How do you know there not good?

Vash16xli says:

They'll be a lot of people that'll need to see this. You helped me with this earlier this year.
