IMPORTANT : IF THIS DOESN’T SOLVE YOUR 2A87 CODE, YOU MAY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE CAM LEDGE.
After attending an event in heavy rain, I needed to have the 335i washed the next day. While waiting in the wash bay the car started idling really rough and threw a CEL.
Immediately diagnosed with my Jb4 Bluetooth Connect kit and it gave the following codes :
2A87 Outlet-Vanos variable cam control test, mechanics
3100 low boost mode engaged — CEL displayed
My heart skipped a beat thinking the car is toast again. A quick call to Janak from Solankis who reassured me that it’s probably just the VANOS Solenoids.
So here we are, another attempt at documenting a DIY on the N54.
