Worn valves, valve springs? Valve clearances checked?
what a beautiful car!!!!!!!
Sweet looking car. My dad had (maybe still has?) one like this.
Unfortunately, he didn’t take care of the car like he should’ve.
Nice Jag !!!!!!! Hows it doing ? in this video seems low on oil causing
that sound ? Put lucas oil stabilizer, and do a synthetic oil change. if
that doesnt work drop a chevy 350 in it.
I own and run daily, an XJ12 of the same year as this six. It’s beautifully
smooth, even by modern standards. No big V8 I’ve EVER driven has ever
matched efficiency and power to an equivalent European engine. Even the
modern, lighteweight Corvette with its archaic LS only manages 18mpg! By
your own logic, if you want a shitty, loud, rough, V8 powered car…
Fucking buy one, don’t ruin a perfectly usable Jaguar. There are plenty
around, and the Jag will be worthless with a V8.
love this car
I have a series 3 which was I believe the golden year they had finally
worked out all the bugs and it was fuel injected
She’s a beauty!!!. I like the colour, and also the colour of the interior.
What a beautiful Jaguar! Nice to see one in Saskatchewan – I live in
Saskatoon. Did you fix the valve train noise issue? Would love to see the
car if you are showing it anywhere.
you have some pics?
The car is nice, however something is constantly rattling in there, you
either have a loose mounting, or ..judging by the age of your XJ it’s
probably tappet. Either way have that thing checked out or you’ll be asking
for trouble, there are tappet repair kits which are usually between $30-60,
the labor cost will be around $200, however also make sure it’s not a
mounting (very much doubt it). The Jags until late 80’s suffered from that
problem, I am surprised how jaguar never made a recall.
i just baught one myself for 4,000 love it
Of course Britain is part of Europe. Just like Iceland is part of Europe.
Just because it’s an Island and a seperate nation does not change what
continent it is a part of. European does not just mean “continental
europe”. That would be the narrowest meaning of continent. Like I said, buy
a map. But you are right Jags are the best!
how much did you payed for the beauty
I’ll trade you for my 59 Caddy…lol
Xj12 is better than xj6
NOOOOOO!!! Seriously, no. There are thousands of people who would have that
car as it is. There are far fewer who would consider one with a shitbox V8
under the bonnet.
Check out my video!
I just read you description. Does you car have a/c? That sound might come
from a seized compressor bearing or other parts that’s driven by the engine
belt. I’d check those parts first. Jag-lovers is also a great place to get
repair infos for your car.
Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the roads lol
Did you ever find out what the noise was? Sounds like it could have been a
leaking exhaust manifold, particularly if it was louder on one side than
the other. I have always liked the XJs, though my preference was for the
SII Coupes. The Series I, particularly with the chrome faced guages has a
much nicer interior, and I am becoming more used to the front end of the
Series Is. A beautiful car in any event.
Weighs about the same, is about as powerful, drinks a LOT more fuel, is
fucking expensive to maintain and yeah, it’s bulletproof, but they run like
a sack of crap anyway, so you’d never notice any problem. Drop a V8 in a
Jag and you have a pile of shit. The WHOLE point of a Jag is that it’s fast
enough, is smooth, refined and quiet. If you don’t want smooth, refined and
quiet (which you obviously don’t if you put a V8 into it) then DON’T BUY A
FUCKING JAG. There are plenty of V8 cars out there.
yup, lt1 in storage … lol
xjs is totally different car lol
Tappet rattle needs the valve followers re shiming, off with the rocker
cover aline cams to timeing marks undo cam sprocket, measure valve
clearance with feeler gauge. take off cam holders and white metal bearings,
take followers out and pallat shims, fit oversise pallat shims to get the
proper valve clearance and then put it all back together.
So beautiful. The S1 was the best looking XJ. I have to get one of these to
complement my S2.
