Car Wizard always calling out bad technicians. As a seasoned mechanic, I learn a lot from Wizard’s inspections. This is also the problem I have with ASE Certifications. Someone can get certified but have no practical skill whatsoever when it comes down to doing the work. ASE certification isn’t a bad thing, but it’s valued far too much in the industry and by the customer.

İsmail Beygirci says:

i literally learned how to work on cars because of situation like this.

Jaaaaaag . All you need now is a tweed jacket.

William Baird says:

Lionheart is a cheap Chinese tire imported into the USA.

Tom Bown says:

Do you have any laws that cover bad workmanship?

Farrier Delivery Service says:

Hate the intro music. I mute it.

Joel Wachter says:

If its not misfiring dont quote the coils no point. If it runs let it go tighten the bolt to the ball joints, alignment, motor mounts and trans mount. If the ac compressor is an issue for them just replace the gasket and save them money, and a new gasket for the shutter valve you said was leaking.

Ali Shan says:

I had my Mercedes W203 in a shop for more than 1 year and still couldn't get it fixed until I got it towed to another shop where it got fixed in about a week.

styloroc2000 says:

I think the hardest thing with dealing with shops is that, while as you imply and what is generally accepted, you get what you pay for — but there have been plenty of instances where I've paid a lot for a job and got terrible service, and conversely, pay what would have been reasonable or even cheap and actually get it done correctly. It's so hard to gauge quality based on price alone — you really have to trust the shop and price doesn't always translates into trust. As I've learned more about auto repair to do the many of the jobs I've taken to the shop to get fixed in the past, I'm taken by how much I've been ripped off for what would otherwise been easy work.

Jimf says:

isnt that the ford v6 where the waterpump is internal and connected to the timing chains….

Nello F says:

In many cases simply having different brand manufactured coils will cause a misfire because of how the computer is reading them.
this other mechanic really screwed up big

le'changa says:

Just by Wizard visually inspecting the car on the ground and putting it on the lift it tells a thousand stories. Don't understand why shops do this, they rip off vulnerable/ unknowledgeable customers but sooner or later that reputation catches up with you. If you want to make a long term comfortable income in mechanics, follow wizards example. If you open a shop and think you are going to make millions in this day and age by ripping off customers it's the wrong industry… It only takes one customer to bring it all down, legally or otherwise

Joe R says:

I brought my Miata in for new struts/shocks, they couldn't install them and charged me $85 anyway…I didn't pay it.

Daryl Nicklen says:

Hey Car Wizard we can tell this breaks your heart that customers at some other shop are getting Screwed over. That bottom ball joint is negligence if you fit new parts not to ensure the bolts are tightened or that its fitted properly. Looks like the power steering pump is a cheap remanufacture. Those coils are just a never replaced or what ever they had laying around. This older couple obviously enjoy there Jaguar and understand that it needs service. They also understand when it just isn't right. I hope you can sort out the car at a reasonable price so these older folk can continue to enjoy there really nice car. I'm a self service person and seeing that come out of so called certified shop is an insult to responsible Techs.

Fred Mertz says:

Jaguar was probably at the height of reliability when Ford owned them. Let that sink in.

Betty Maverick says:

Many years ago I was ASE certified when it all started. Which meant nothing in our world except for being forced since the public didn't know the difference. It is just like being Microsoft certified(MSE) it meant nothing. How about Oracle Certified it meant nothing. Worse yet college degrees mean nothing it all depends on the individual person.

Peter Fernandez JR says:

A 21 yr old Jag is just not a smart purchase unless you are willing to throw loads of cash into repairs and maintenance.

www.toolsplusUSA.com says:

I was an auto tech in the late 70's for a few years. Today I still work one MOST of my cars and trucks. Some times it is less money to take it to a shop that knows what they are doing. Every car has it own way of doing things. I had one I tinkered with for months and could not figure it out because I do not have a wiring diagram. I took it to the dealer and they found it in a few hours. BAM< that fixed it. I just took my 2017 Isuzu NPR HD 6.0 gas truck to the dealer I purchased it from for a P0300 code and they charged me $1600 and I still have the same problem. I have a Autel Maxicom MK808 and it does help a lot. They dealer said it need a new battery, plugs and wires and the "SHOULD" fix the problem. I changed all that and still have the same problem. Could it be the VVT??

Nicholas Cortez says:

Demonstrating why you really should know how to work on your own car even if it's just so when you take it to a shop you can verify if they did the work properly or that they even preformed the work they claim.

gedski1200 says:

Is it me or does the door hanging / panel fit seem poor on this car?
I am based in the UK and would be leery of buying a Jaguar

Ron Wade says:

Jag by FORD, Yawn…

Hott Puppy says:

LR 1/4 looks like is has been repainted from previous damage several years ago as it doesn't match. It needs to be redone–crappy paint job with poor materials. Most body shops 'guarantee' their work for 'life' fully expecting that you will get rid of the car before the job goes to pot. That repair job requires a refund for the poor suspension work and alignment. The A/C compressor should be covered by the manufacturer. It IS possible that the coils may have been replaced (as long as they don't look too dirty). Maybe the parts place didn't have a full set and they had to get ones from multiple sources and they aren't the same manufacture. Either way, one could be defective. You NEVER get bad new parts! LOL!

Tomis On says:

I wish I had taken my troublesome BMW e60 to you, but your shop is so far away. I had taken this car to several "certified" european shops, but they couldn't figure out what was causing the infamous quadfecta lights of death (AWD, Brake, DSC, ABS). I had the transfer case replaced twice, the actuator twice, speed sensors, DSC module, ABS module, the list goes on, but still didn't fix it. I gave up and sold it to carmax at a loss. That feeling of losing all that time and money is horrible, and causes distrust of mechanics.
