Hey Wills….
I realize this thread is 3 years old.

Fabulous. I purchased a new Jag a few weeks ago, and yours is the single best tutorial of how to set one of these things up!
Serious Thank You for this!

IrishBog says:

Thanks for this – had hoped that you would talk about shimming – when it's needed and how to do it.

Michael Allred says:

This is a great video. I like how you explained every step you took. Personally I have always cleaned my fretboard with lighter fluid and conditioned the wood with duck oil. I may try using your method now. However, when you took the neck off I freaked…I never did that before. I was always afraid to do that. You have inspired me to learn all the nuances of all my guitars. I would like to keep working toward setting up all my guitars. It will save me money and help me make the sounds I want. Thank you for explaining that so well.

Great job! I disagree with lubricating the machine heads. Residual oil can wick into the wood. IMO.

Chris Parker says:

PLEASE HELP: I have a Jazzmaster Standard and the vibrato doesn't have the moving button. How do I set up the vibrato with the adjustment screw?

George Brooks says:

"I made this video so that next time the customer can do it himself and doesn't have to pay me to do it" haha more like "I'm making this video for a customer who has absolutely no idea just how much goes into the work I do to show him why he should absolutely hire me next time"

Jason Roig says:

I just got the new Fender American Pro Jaguar. Do you know if it's the same? Or would it be different than this video?

Gil Barreto says:

Just got an HH Jag and after playing it for a bit it developed an irritating buzz on a couple of the stings that sounds like something vibrating in the guitar. I looked inside to see what it could be and even went as far as putting some foam around the spring in the trem but it had no effect. What could this be? Please help!

Mika Tarkela says:

Do you have a video for tune-o-matic bridges? I'm having hard time getting my Schecter JL-7 with a hard tail setup right.

Mika Tarkela says:

The bridge in this guitar is pretty interesting..

bitgwa says:

Anyone know if it is necessary to lock the trem lock when tuning all strings down a 1/2 step? Or is that only necessary for odd tunings, where the balance of the tensions between the strings will change?

bitgwa says:

Just bought a Johnny Marr jaguar and getting buzz from the low E string hitting hitting the screw on the trem plate. I tried raising the bridge, but there is still screw contact after 5 full rotations. At this point the action is way too high. Trying to wrap my head around what the problem is. Anyone dealt with this kind of issue?

Richard James says:

Can you tell me what size Allen wrench to adjust action on the top and bottom of bridge ? Not sure if the Squier VM Jazzmaster is the same

Colin W says:

Very informative. Thank you!

Jeffrey Martin says:

This is a really well thought out, explained, and effectively filmed tutorial. Thank you so much! I have just a few questions, Is the buffing of the fretboard absolutely necessary after the leveling and sanding of the frets? I don't have one and I was hoping to start doing set-ups at home. Also, what kind of bridge is that? Is it a Mustang Bridge or a Jaguar Bridge with Mustang saddles? Thanks again.

Wes Howard says:

This is an OUTSTANDING video; thank you so much. Taking the time to explain the "why" as well as the working of the vibrato unit takes this way above most – 2x thumbs-up.(My 2 cents 90% of "issues" are neck relief, nut or bridge.) If someone takes their time, or is picky with the tech they have doing it because they don't have nut files, etc., they will be happy campers with their Jag or Jazzmaster.

One thing I would mention that I didn't see (might've missed it) "just in case" is – when messing with individual saddles – make sure that when you're finished the saddle is level & both screws tight to the bridge plate. (The string height will yield the following of the radius; not canting individual saddles.) But if one of those adjustment screws is backed off, you're going to get a rattle that will send you chasing down all kinds of rabbit-holes for something that takes a couple seconds to fix.

Happy Surfing!

dude says.. "making this video so next time, the customer, and others can do the setup themselves" goes on to do the most involved and complicated setup I've ever seen in my life… awesome work!
