John, Thanks great video. I was wondering as getting a used fob for my 05’ XK8 seems to be $100. I noticed the Ford four button fobs look quite similar for only $8. Do you know if they would work on my XK8?? Thanks.

Can't get my key fob working… only came with one, and one key. so I bought two used ones from ebay… then one new one. I cleaned all with alcohol, new batteries… followed procedure to the best of my ability…. many times… still no luck! I also bought a few new blank keys… I finally found someone who could cut them for me. closest Jaguar dealer is 2 hours away.

Hi John, I posted this comment on the wrong video DUH. Having had intermittent response from both of my remotes and taking your advice in this video – great by the way – the remotes only worked for a limited time. So determined to find the actual problem I decided to open a remote and physically short the pcb fingers under each button, ie I had to remove the rubber button pad, and using a small flat bladed screwdriver I gently shorted the fingers under the button pad one at a time and I could not fail either remote, so the problem was conductivity was lost under the rubber buttons, to overcome this I stuck some conductive tape on each button and the remotes work perfectly and at 15mts from the car which before I had to be right on top of the car. I am so pleased to resolve this frustrating problem I just thought you may want to share this. I have a 1997 XK8 convertible. Keep the videos coming they are great and I genuinely look forward to every one you produce. All the best David Nixon Black Bourton Oxfordshire.

Great fix John. It was certainly getting harder and harder to make it work and also had to be close to the car. Works like a dream now.

PhotoArt Teacher says:

On a 98 XJ8 jag after reprogramming 2 extra remote fobs – now sometimes when you hit the lock button the car makes a weird loud chirp sound and doesn't lock any doors – the sound is much louder and longer than the normal lock door chirp. it will do this every time you try and then as if by magic it will suddenly work as it should.
Have you ever experienced this – Any thoughts or suggestions ?

Steve Earl says:

Thanks my dad just got an xk8 and I think this will come in useful

Harry Scott says:

Hi John,
This is a re-visit for me. My book tells me I have to have the new batteries installed within 2 minutes, to avoid re-programming…any thoughts?

Nice vid, unintentional ASMR.

Orthopedux says:

I don't know if you noticed that the batteries tends to empty quickly. I discovered that, even after a proper cleaning, there still was some black material between the lines.

I suppose this is some of that carbon material, and that it does make a small contact between those lines, draining the batteries.

I have put the board of a powerful torch, and have been able to see this material in transparency, then I scrubed between the lines with a hard and pointy tool to remove it.

Anyway, the issue comes back rapidly. Maybe putting some metal adhesive on the rubber buttons to add more contact would be a good idea ?
