Blown Head Gasket Could Have Been Avoided | Cost $11,000 To Fix | Jaguar Xjl

You can save thousands of dollars by doing general maintenance to avoid having to repair your blown head gasket. On my Jaguar Xjl portfolio supercharged I had to put in a new engine because I had a coolant leak that turn into a blown head gasket.

Great attitude to have . Man that car is now complete loss even if paid off . Thx for insight with me having a supercharged 5.0 I will keep this in mind fo sho !

Andrew Klages says:

Thanks for posting, great tip on renting from O'Reilly! What did you decide to do with the car? I just bought my first X351 2012 XJL Portfolio 5.0 with 48k miles. Jag dealer serviced a coolant leak before I took it home but I'm still smelling coolant… Having owned two X350 4.2L models I know how much V8 Jags love to leak coolant. Can't wait to dig into the 5.0 and get her buttoned up. Rear crossover will be the first place I look.

Raven Bonanza says:

Coolant leaks, water pump and plastic coolant pipes are the talk of most Jaguar owners with V6 & V8 supercharged engines on a lot of Jaguar forums. When a new member joins in with a new Jaguar, other members on the forum chips in to warn of this problem that can be preventable. On a 2.0 L4 like mine on my Jaguar XF, I've NEVER read of any issues of blown coolant pipes.

Great video

Wiedman Duhe says:

How did the car drive when the head gasket was blown? And how did the oil look ?

great video

Darryl M Slater says:

I had the exact issue to my 2011 Jaguar XJL.
Installed new engine as you did.

cumminsturbo98 says:

Yeah I have a 2010 XF Supercharged 5.0 and I plan to replace the front and rear cross over pipe this summer as this is a common problem with these cars. I think I’ll also replace the water pump and take the supercharger out to be serviced and looked over. Just want to have some preventative maintenance done.

ggg djdj says:

why can’t you just resurface heads and block? and then put a new head gasket in?

Prince Davis says:

Hey Bro I had a desire to buy same car. Would I be a great move to do so or I’m I asking for trouble?

Max B says:

Will you ever do a video on changing front or rear breaks? Don't think they are any different or harder to change from normal breaks, just would be a nice video for information.

thunder prince says:

These dealerships are the cause of the problems they rip off the customers YouTube is a very handy place for information and how to fix your cars

A P says:

Hi Oxmanagain,
Quick question, why didn't you use the Bar's head seal as you did with your old Pontiac back in 2017?
Thanks

Porter88 says:

Have you had the transmission serviced yet on your XJ? I know Jaguar says its a lifetime trani & will not touch it. You need to find a reliable (yelp) local transmission shop that will do it. It has the ZF 6HP28 and ZF is a major manufacturer of transmissions. If your in SoCal – Oceanside Transmission handles these at a reasonable price & has 1 day trunaround usually with an appointment. Should be done ebvery 30,000 – 40,000 miles.

I tried this test and I can not pump it up to 29psi (200kpa) It's way to hard, it won't go past 12. Am I doing something wrong here?

Damien Enoch says:

Had just brought a 2014 Jaguar XF sc 3.0 and the next day off the lot it was overheating and error popped up low coolant. So I took it to a shop to be looked at the said I need a thermostat and water pump so I took it back to the dealership and they repairing as we speak. I plan on now renting the pressure tester and taking it up there when they say it’s ready to be picked up. So my question is when I do go up there if the pressure stay solid and don’t move my head gasket good? If it do move after a water pump and thermostat change then what that mean?

michael tiza says:

Not to call out the obvious; it's a supercharged engine the head gaskets won't last as long. That's what it costs to drive a race car. Naturally aspirated engines the parts last a whole lot longer.

L J DUCE says:

i know you changed the water pump….so the crossover pipe was the leaky culprit instead???

Dany Doueiri says:

Thank you for your insightful tip. I don't own an expensive car but from time to time, I always wonder if I had a leak in my car. The pressure test is simple and easy. Thanks for showing us step by step how to do it! Keep it up.

Andrew Zamora says:

So sorry to hear this. I just bought and XJL Supercharged now I'm a bit nervous. Can I ask how many miles your car had when this happened? Also, it says in the description you put in a new engine, is that what you ended up doing?

Gordon Wedman says:

Good to see you again but under better circumstances would have been better. I don't think many people would routinely pressure test their cooling system. I have been working on my cars for 50 years and don't have one. Didn't the Jag have a "low coolant" warning? My 2008 Range Rover had a warning. Looking at the coolant tank showed it was low. I just topped it up without further investigation but a few days later my brother noticed water dripping onto the ground under the engine. Investigation discovered a leaking cooling system hose which I replaced myself.

Robert Montgomery says:

Did you explain what was happening to give you a reason to test.

Betavirus says:

Easy fix. Don't buy a jaguar. They are literal pieces of junk. Sure they run good until they don't and boy…are they expensive to fix!
