Isuzu Mu-X & D-maX || Diff – Gearbox – Transfer Case Extended Breathers

Hey Guys and Gals!

In this video i show you exactly how to extend the standard Diff, Transmission and Transfer case breathers in your Isuzu MU-X or D-MAX.

Why would you want to extend your breathers?

The standard breathers on your 4wd vehicle sit very low and if you plan on going through water crossings over the height of your rim / tyre then the chance is those breathers are going to suck in some water from that crossing. So that is why we go about extending them higher in the engine bay were there is no chance of them getting water into the breathers and into your expensive drive line components.

These breather kits cost approx $50 and with a few hours of your time you can put these to action and protect your expensive drive line components.

I start by finding a nice high dry place in the engine bay to mount the bracket, i chose the firewall. After drilling and mounting the unit to the firewall i simply ran the black plastic piping from the rear diff, front diff and gearbox/transfer case.

Thanks alot for watching guys! If you enjoyed this video and would like to see more videos like this. Please like the video and Subscribe to my channel : )

BarryJPR says:

Hi Nick, im presently fitting my breather kit. Im a bit stuck on the part at 08:18. That particular hose appears attached to something, do i simply unplug what its attached to in order to feed my breather hose into it? I cant see whats up there and i cant find my damned telescopic mirror. cheers in advance mate.

BarryJPR says:

HI Nick, did you use any thread lock for this?

Andy Hawley says:

Hi Nick, how do you remove the factory transmission breather hose from whatever it attaches to on the other end?

Jay G says:

Thanks Nick, this video helped us out fitting our breathers.

JAG ROSEBERY says:

Great work bud

zerocool says:

Nice video mate, I hope my Amarok V6 comes with extened pipes like yours out of the factory so that the new breather pipes just fit inside the excisting pipes like yours, looks easy. Bugger trying to get to the top of the gearbox etc otherwise!

Dewald Grobler says:

I have a 2008 dmax, correct me if I am wrong, its the rear diff, front diff, then the front diff actuator on the left i see also has a fitting to slip a pipe on, though mine doesn’t have a pipe.. and then the transfer case, which i need to see still where the breather is situated.. So 4 in total??

James Danks says:

Thanks for this Nick, got a breather kit recently and was wondering if the Trans and Transfer were different lines but from this video I can see that they’re combined. Hoping the install goes as smoothly as yours.
Top job on the vids, keep it up!

Brenden Delamere says:

Hey mate i just completed this install thanks to your video, thanks so much mate keep em coming, Cheers.

Robert Walsh says:

Hay nick great video but can't seem to find the the gearbox and transfer case breathes on the manual gearbox there is two hoses just behind the gear stick one is about 20cm long comes out then go's back in and then the other comes out next to it then go's back in at the back of the transfer case next to the tail shaft any thoughts

corruptideal says:

How did you disconnect the transmission breather? The line on my DMAX is running into a small white plastic box on top of the transmission??

Frank says:

Like your neat work.

brendon gleeson says:

@lowrangenick I’m having trouble locating the transmission breather on my Dmax. Is it the same location as the mux in ya video or??

Prateek Singh says:

Could you please put a link from eBay for this particular kit. TIA

Jason H says:

Hi Nick, thanks for the video, question was the transmission breather attached to a white plastic part with the breather part coming out of the top middle part? Looks like it can be the only soft rubber pipe out of the top. Thanks

Latin dance india says:

Can this used in any 4×4 cars ?

Dusty Farmer says:

I reckon the supplied plastic/steel push in fittings will fail pretty quickly with the up & down movement of the diffs and stiff hose in them. I used the factory diff hose barbs, pushed some 1/4" clear nylon reinforced hose over it & pushed the breather hose inside the nylon hose, tight fit & much stronger & not affected by flex or use. Same treatment on the transfer & gearbox breather barbs.

joldback says:

8:20 secs , how did you get the breather line free to connect the extended hose to it ?
