Comment your "starter stories" here. I know some Audi's need the engine lifted to get to the starter and the Cadillac NorthStar engine has the starter under the intake manifold! What a bad design!

Andrew Arceneaux says:

I had this issue with my Grand Marquis. I was fond of sliding it. This resulted in pure torture for my rear axle from it hitting things sideways. One day, it was just too much. The bolt on top of the rear differential holding the sway arms in place sheared off. I had it towed to the shop I work at and took my brother's car for the day. The boss's son was kind enough to weld the bolt back on because it had broken off and stripped threads and would be too much work to helicoil it. During this process, one of the guys in the shop thought it would be funny to unplug my neutral safety switch. I thought the welding had fried the circuit even though I had pulled the negative terminal. I checked the relay and it was good. I had actually asked the boss to order a starter for me. I was in the process of removing the starter with the new one on its way before the guy admitted to fucking with me. He had even lifted the car in the air with me in it to hit the starter while I started it and plugged it back in while hitting it to make it start.
