hey mate, thanks for your videos they were very helpful with doing my holden rodeo 1996. one thing i did differently though, if you take the ‘bump stop’ out (2 bolts) the plate will slide out easily and make life a whole lot better!

Also…replace your axle shaft seal with a new one and inspect your ball joints and tie rod ends while doing this repair, why tear it back down…usually your axle shaft seal will leak if you try to reuse it…it’s about 13 bucks and well worth it.

brian carpenter says:

To answer the question about why you didn’t have enough space on a 2001…you actually have to drop the differential support cross member on the side you are working on…it’s two long 9/16 bolts with nuts on them. Also, if you have heard the best way to do this is take your cv axle apart and just use the half shaft, it’s wrong information. The new cv axles internals will usually not work in new cv shafts as the design has changed some. Do not attempt this repair if you suck with tools!

LOL! I felt the same way when I was trying to get the differential cover plate out from the suspension arms.

Great advice! Thanks for sharing this.

Im doing this job now and i just have to say this is the most fucked up design any engineer could have come up with……….. this is what u get when book smart engineers try their hypothetical designs in a real world application…… A FUCKING NIGHTMARE …… and you can quote me on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the designer of this setup needs a bullet.

Halea Moriah says:

if you loosen the upper and lower ball joints leaving the nut half on the lower you can put a floor jack under the lower to keep it steady and drive the spindle housing off with a couple taps of a 4 lb sledge hammer .

Mark King says:

I don’t know that I can help you out with this one. I know nothing about the 2001’s so someone else may have to jump in here and help you out.
