My shifter is not in sync with what gear my car is actually in. Seems like its a problem between the transmission and the shifter having a linkage problem. c…

I had this problem with my 2002 rodeo and its an easy enough fix.
Underneath the drivers side door there is a long wire with a black shifter
piece that’s supposed to connect to a metal u shaped object that’s attached
to the tranny. What you have to do, or at least what I did, is get some zip
ties and use them to hold that black piece into the u shaped holder. But
you’ve got to make sure the black piece is in park, which means putting it
in that holder and then pulling it towards the direction of the back of the
car, you’ll hear it click as you do this and then apply the zip ties as
tight as you can to hold it there. What happens is sometimes that u shaped
metal piece gets bent and the shifter piece falls out, I couldn’t bend it
back, so I just used zip ties, which have held for several years now.

I would think your transmission range mode switch needs to be either
cleaned or replaced. It’s mounted onto the driver’s side of the
transmission. Sometimes my dash indicator lights would not correspond to
the gear selected in my 98 Passport, and this would also cause a harsh 1-2
shift. I’ve since replaced it.

So I have a 2001 rodeo. I just had the transmission rebuilt. I am having a
similar problme. My shifter will sometimes fight me to come out of park but
yet it says it is in reverse and will roll backwards. the other day I was
able to shift through al the gears but the dash light still showed me in
park. The car then would only go into reverse. I took it back to the shop
that did the transmission and they said it was the whole shifter that
needed to be replaced. I was wanting a second opinion because parts are
hard to find for this vehicle and when you do they are expensive. should i
just replace the shifter or is it the shifting cables?

Did anyone attempted to fix this. Im having similar problem. Car would only
drive in low gear. Nothing pass 2nd. I have no reverse. I wonder if I just
need to replace transmission

I have an 2001 Isuzu rodeo, and when I shift in to park, the dash says im
in reverse and my car will go in reverse ,when I should be in park. and
when if I shift into reverse my car will actually be in drive. and so on.
but I can not physically shift in to low gear. it seems as if i have a
transmission linkage problem. but I dont know how to fix this. the only
way to start the car is to be in neutral ( in between park and reverse)

check engine and transmition mounts , check selector cable

Having a similar problem. Thinking there is a loose screw. If I pull up in
the lever when moving it, it is better. Getting ready to tear into it right
now.

Did you get this problem fix? If so, how did you get it fixed?
