Really, no dipstick for the tranny? Wow. Luckily my 1994 does have that. I should feel lucky, but this car is still very much the devil.

Everyone there is a part-time saint. A real great bunch of people. I'm not on FB anymore, but I think I miss them the most. A lot of guys there really know how to work on these.

For example, IIRC, there's a trick to getting the starter out on these. It goes something like…Prop the engine up and take the motor mount loose on the side opposite the starter. This lets you lower the engine a wee bit lower than usual on the disconnected motor mount side, giving you the necessary clearance on the starter side to remove the starter.

Anyway, it's a commonly mentioned technique on there. Just mention it and they will tell you how it actually goes and whether it works for 96 Rodeos.

Setting it on fire might have been a good option…….

Being 60 years old, I learned that in buying a vehicle, If I can't see the starter or spark plugs by just opening the hood, I don't buy the vehicle. I was surprised when I bought a new 2012 Doge Ram, I could actually almost fit in the engine compartment, relativity speaking of course. Just food for thought next time you are in-search of a vehicle.

Paul Roberts says:

Not much thought went into that design!!
