have an old I-30 in excellent shape as a back-up car and this has driven me nuts, finally a video that clearly shows to pull the metal tab and thru the loop that is on the pad and have them on the topside not bottomside as i have been doing the past few years. had constant pulsating issues because of it. the local shop did the same thing too, they weren't installed correctly. this finally cured it. a 1,000 thank you's

Video not to clear
Camera position poor

Kim Stockdale says:

For the slide pin boots, at 10:00 you say the “skinnier end here that slides around the top.” Not clear what you are saying, and could not see from the video. Does the skinny end of boot attach to frame nipple or to slide pin head? (Great video btw)

Thank you x 100 mate!! You just showed me what the a-hole did wrong that put my last brakes on, and answered a question no one else seemed to know what I was talking about, those spring things on the clip!!! Most vids I checked out were being done on Maxima's but would say also for I30 yada yada, but no talk of spring things! Anyway my car is a 2000 I30t, best car I have ever owned, at almost 18 years old and never garaged, still looking almost new, paint and all… never had any US car hold a candle to this one. The "I " series made Consumer Reports top 10 used cars to buy every year out from being made, year after year. Notice often in forums people getting up to 300,000 and still going.
And super easy to work on, if you know whats what for this car, that is. Apparently many mechanics don't, even noticed where they about tore apart a wire junction clip trying to figure out how to get it apart, guess finally figuring out the push buttons.
Two starters and two years later I decided to do number three myself, took 10 minutes! Right under the air filter box, my install is still going 5 years later… Aholes!
Took off the mess of a brake job they did that covered me and my wheels in black soot from day one, and the parts just fell out, had used pieces of wire? to harness things together? :O
I know some stuff is the same from the I series to the maxima, but so much is not. I know my I30t has way different suspension, glass is 50% thicker (for quieter ride) and interior wise, only match is the glove box door, car is good bit longer than a max too. Wish that had continued the model in Infiniti, the newest Max is sharp, the little two door Infinity coupe is AWESOME!
Anyhow, thanks a million, Got a repair manual for the Maxima out of desperation, know of any Infinity specific ones available?
Thanks buddy!

Thank you so much for posting this, it was tremendous help. Is there anyway you could do a video on how to switch out the sparkplug's on this infinity. The ones on the front are easy, but I'm not sure how to get to the ones by the firewall, thanks.

These are the rotor and pads I purchased from Rock Auto for my wife's 02 i35. I hope they hold up better than the OEM rotors. Those front rotors are heavy! Weighed them for the hell of it, 16lbs. Definitely some metal there. I hope being drilled and slotted they will resist warping. Thanks for all of your help Jim.

Mark Eden says:

Thank you, getting ready to replace pads and rotors on the wife's 2002 I35. Are the rears pretty much the same configuration as the front? Also I have seen other videos where they show pinching off the brake line and opening the bleed screw to reset the piston in the caliper. I never bothered to do that before on any disc brake jobs I did before. I used to just take the cap off the master cylinder and used a c-clamp the reset the piston in the caliper. I don't care for the idea of loosing the bleed screw and take a chance on getting air in the system.
Is there any reason why some mechanics are shown using the bleed off method?
Thanks again for the video.

hi I'm getting a i35 02 just wondering what problems may occur

I have seen many Nissan's and Infinity's that have been done wrong as that one was. That was a great tip on how to hold the pads in place using the caliper. So simple. I guess that's why I didn't think of it. {:-)

stuzman says:

Interesting clips on those brake pads Jim as I've never quite seen any like that. And good tips on having the correct ones and how to hold the pads in place to let the caliper swing down. Do you have any issue of where the metal backing plate of the inner pad that touches the piston ever squeak. On the brakes that I do, I'll put a little disc quiet lube on the piston that touches the inner backing plate since it's metal to metal. And what manufacturer of brake pads do you like to use? With your step-by-step tutorials Jim, you make a good teacher. Take care Jim…

As always a good video with helpful information.

N Smith says:

Good job Jim!

wyattoneable says:

I've not done too many brake jobs but those clips are new one to me.

Michael Herbert says:

Great video. Did you have the brake hardware clip under the loop of the brakes pad or through the loop? I put them through the loop and now fear that I've been doing it wrong. I think that the last nissan brake job I did, the clip was through the loop from the factory. I could be mistaken though. It was a nissan xterra.
