I am a hyundai tech at a hyundai dealership this is a very common issue on the sonata and was a recall.
also the elantra had the same issue some years

no need to take the whole steering assembly out. just need to drop it down, if needed, remove the fuse box (only 2 screws) and that gives u all the space you need. just did mine today.
