True that it's probably the lever that arm. BUT… why not change the whole thing while your at it. Great video. Cool dude. Thank for posting.

Chris Goulet says:

Caveat: The Sonata in this video is an SE trim, with the sport suspension. It has an "X" shaped engine cradle (subframe) behind the engine. The GLS trim has a square-shaped engine cradle with a bar and engine mount in front of the engine. These will greatly interfere with the starter removal method used in this video. For the GLS trim it is necessary to also remove the radiator cooling fan (not easy).

The improved starter shift lever 36131-2G100-FFF does not have a channel groove near the pivot like the original Valeo 1250865. This makes it stronger. I phoned five Hyundai and Kia dealerships in Edmonton, Alberta, and none of them had the part. Got it on Amazon, in 2 days via Purolator courier.

I just had a starter replaced by Vision hyundai in Rochester, my car was running perfectly– 45 minutes after I got the vehicle home — all the antifreeze poured from my radiator — the fan motor is damaged …is it possible that the radiator was damaged during the process of replacing the starter? please advise

Mark Wallner says:

Nice video, very helpful, thanks.

John Park says:

I really appreciate this! I believe my lever arm is broken but your video helps so much to reach the starter. Thank you!

Mike Abbott says:

just an fyi when it is whining like that the starters good. it's the lever arm in the starter that went bad it's a 6$ to 10$ part. A whole lot cheaper then buying a new starter. same work to pull it. just have to pull the starter apart.

Jack Sprat says:

That bracket isn't doing much other than providing a place to hang that wire tubing. I mean it's not structural. Maybe keeping them out of the fan.

Jw Black says:

I can dig it, I followed your instructions and bingo starter replaced, the only thing is did different was remove the fan, 3 bolts and a little careful wiggling, it gives much more room to remove bracket and starter. So my man, I CAN DIG IT. Thanks for the video.

John Choi says:

Great video, except for the intro.

I better make more videos, your starting to catch up to me.

Auto Fix Pal says:

I have changed a starter on one of those.. Same exact symptoms.. Wasn't too bad to do.. I also changed an engine in one of those (very easy) because the customer didn't think they should change the oil.. EVER… 45K NO oil changes.

Anyhow, great video.
