How to: 2006 Hummer H3 Hood Vent / Louver Repair (Broken Hood Vent Deck)

How to: 2006 Hummer H3 Hood Vent / Louver Repair (Broken Hood Vent Deck)

If you own a Hummer H3, we hope that this never happens to you. Imagine driving your “Heavy Duty” Hummer through the car wash.. and there goes your hood vent.. wandering around the sky. It was quite an embarrassing experience.
Well if it did, here is a cheap repair for the Hood Louver / Vent / Deck / Top Cover or whatever you may want to call that thing on our hood…

Make sure you buy industrial strength glue, and generously slather that on the broken tabs and hardened glue. To make sure this never happens again…
Hummer owners should never be afraid to go through the car wash.. even though we know water leaks in through the gaps.. but that is for another story…

Its likely that the tabs are there to make it easier to properly position the louvre panel on the hood during factory installation and to keep the ends from lifting up and rattling from air flow during driving. I guess they could've used double sided tape to secure the edges, but that wouldn't help the positioning. Consider when you were gluing the louvre back on, did the tabs help reassure you that you had the louver properly centered on the hood?

I hope the super glue holds, it would not be my first choice in this application. if there is enough lift and vibration on the louvre to snap the tabs off, I'm skeptical that the superglue will hold. Superglue tends to dry, crack and become brittle over time.

Don’t use superglue. Use liquid nails or epoxy
