Anyone want to give me an H1… ?
With biodiesel you’ve got an ongoing cost of making every gallon of fuel you burn for the rest of the life of your vehicle. Not to mention the time involved in the transesterification process and the money you’ll spend on the chemical catalysts for the process. With SVO, convert the rig once and then every gallon of fuel you burn after that can be unmodified, doesn’t get any simpler than that.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience running vegetable oil, sounds like you didn’t properly filter your veggie oil or you had a system on your rig that didn’t properly heat your oil. We have hundreds of vehicles we’ve converted over the years with half a million miles on veggie or more. Veggie doesn’t hurt an engine, poor filtering does.

It is simple to convert a crappy engine like the H1 6.5 IDI NA.
I think you can just put oil in the tank and start the engine, it runs not perfectly but with no problems.
Try with a little common rail turbocharged engine….like the Smart 800CDI one, or a FIAT 1.3 Multijet.
A European engine, with high specific output, not a crappy american engine.

Yeah, the Duramax engine is just a really great engine. Some people prefer it over the stock engine. The nice thing about SVO vs Biodiesel is there is no on going cost with every gallon of fuel you burn. Just filter the vegetable oil and you’re done with SVO. With biodiesel you have to chemically modify each gallon you’re going to burn, that’s time consuming, and more costly. But some people prefer Biodiesel, we’ve chosen to go the SVO rout.
What ever gas mileage you would normally get on diesel, you will get running veggie, sometimes slightly more.
A completely heated fuel path for the vegetable oil. That includes the veggie fuel tank, the veggie heated fuel pickup, the internally heated veggie fuel filter, the heated veggie fuel lines. By doing that you created a heated fuel path for the veggie to flow unrestricted to your engine. If you’d like to know more information, check out our website 🙂
Dude…of course H1’s had diesel, the problem was that the 6.5l only made like 165HP, and the new 6.6l duramax makes closer to 300+HP. that’s why this is significant. plus you can make biodiesel in your garage (with no engine conversion at all) and it’s gonna be like $0.70 a gallon. nice!! 🙂
so what gas milage do you get with the h1 when running veggie oil?
There are too many people in control of the oil companys (also have a huge say so in our government), makeing too much money off of them as they are.
you know if our damned government would convert them in the middle east i bet we would save millions in tax dollars. oh but it makes too much sense.
You could def. use a scaled down conversion but there still would need to be some modifications and additions to reliably run waste vegetable oil in your H1. Give us a call and we could give you some more information.
i live in warm weather year round, i live in hawaii. would i need to be concerned with any modifications with the H1 using veggie? or can i just use veggie on H1 stock?
MOST, 99% of Hummers (H1’s) have DIESEL engines, there was a run of gas engines in 94, but they sucked so bad, gas was discontinued.
And to go further on being more environmentally friendly… choose a proper vehicle for your driving needs. OR buy a Hummer…
Forgot to answer the first part of your question. Diesel engines in general get far better fuel economy than their gas counterparts. When running on veggie you can expect to the the same fuel economy you would get using diesel fuel, if not slightly better because veggie is more lubricating than diesel fuel.
Great question… I don’t think there’s a shot from inside the cab, but to answer your question, no, diesel engines will run quieter on vegetable oil because it is more lubricating than diesel fuel. Most diesel fuel in the USA is having the Sulfur removed to clean up emissions. Sulfur gives diesel it’s lubricity. Due to vegetable oils high lubricating properties, when running veggie your fuel becomes an active lubricant, thus helping it run quieter, which is noted by most of our customers.
The engine from the inside of the Hummer sounds like a drum machine…an a effect of the veggie oil?
