Best explanation video for an old honda and covers just everything one
needs to know, Respect!!

Also, I removed the throttle body and sawed slots in the original screws
with a hack saw. Mine is a DX with a DPFI system, which is a bit easier to
access. Never-the-less, removal of the throttle body will facilitate easy
access to the screws.

I have one problem with this procedure. It is a mistake made by many; that
is the use of any ground as a grounding point. The ECU ground (green wire)
on the TPS is a dedicated ground through which no other electrical loads
are passed. Reference is taken at the ECU end of this wire and also at the
regulated 5 volt source of the ECU, which makes all other electrical loads
within the car irrelevant. If you reference ground at the battery,
particularly when the engine is on, the alternator is

this is a great video. this process works for any B series D series or H
series honda motor

LpJr99 says:

what size are the screws for the tps sensor?

fantmclwd says:

I had a tps problem when my engine light came on and so i replaced it and
calibrated it correctly to 4.5 and 0.5 but after a few months it started to
mess up again and my engine light came back on. so i replaced it and it
worked fine for a day or so then started messing up. the odd part is that
it messes up every now and then not constantly. could it be the wires? if
so how do i go at changing them?

LpJr99 says:

@MovingUpp ahh, i my tb broke, one of my buddyes had 2 brand new spare
aftermarket tb’s laying around, so he gave me one.. problem is it doesnt
come with a tps sensor…lol ive temporarily fixed my current tb and dont
wana fuck around with taking the tps off and be stuck without any tb lol

Justin Crediblename says:

@fresno93703 Well there are a variety of volt ohm meters on the market
which sometimes have a bunch of different holes to connect your probes to.
But you’re measuring voltage. Often times the black, negative wire will
connect to a hole which has a symbol which looks like a hang-man holding
some horizontal bars (google images: ground symbol) Your red plug will go
into a slot that reads voltage, not capacitance or ohms (you might google
images: ohms to see what not to put it into) gl

Thanks helpfull

Thanks man

td1238 says:

From what I am reading, the TPS should be adjusted at WOT for 4.5 volts,
and then the throttle stop screw used to adjust it for .48-.5 volts with
the throttle closed. Could be wrong on this, though.

Chris Long says:

i understand this videos old haha but I had a question. my idle on my car
stays at 3000 rpm and I was wondering if it was my tps that is causing it
to do this? thanks man please reply when you get the chance..

SR20KID says:

Anyone know if I can use a 89 DX TPS on my 89 Si engine?

sbdav13fran says:

Thank u so much for posting this… My code 7 on ecu just went off last
nite and I gotta fix it try since I heard if I don’t change tsp then I wil
burn out the o2 sensor …I guess ima test the old one since auto zone hs a
no return policy on elec parts if installed.. Respect bro

panoulis20 says:

i have a question for you,i own an 91 civic with an d16a2 engine. At closed
tb the tps shows 0.51volts but at wot it shows 4.2volts. i tried
re-adjusting it but it will be either off in closed tb or off at wot. its
this a tps problem or could it be something else? (ps: i am getting cel
code 7 (tps sensor) from time to time and its getting more often). anyone
faced this problem before?tnx

Justin Crediblename says:

could always be a bunch of things. One thing you might check out is the MAP
sensor, or manifold absolute pressure sensor. happened to me once. GL

Cameron Flowers says:

+For showing me how to do this. Double Plus for having a NOT ricer honda.
Respect.

Justin Crediblename says:

@LpJr99 hopefully someone will get you this info. I had some sitting around
and don’t have a gauge.

therealfatNINJA says:

Heh… figures that there is a guide for the 88 Honda… I have an 87.

@KAOTIKREACTION1 call orielly auto parts 🙂

My 89 Acura has the same engine so I thank u for the video

Jacob Nason says:

I’ve got a 99 dx that idles wicked low. At first when the car came up to
temp it would idle up and down repeatedly. So I cleaned the IACV and now it
just idles super low. Should I replace the IACV or is there a way to adjust
my idle?

miguelismetro says:

I don’t want to brake anything

fresno93703 says:

where do i put the black negative plug to on the voltmeter. and where to i
put the red positive plug to on the voltmeter. thanks for the video i need
to know more how use the volt meter. thanks alot bro

Jose Tapia says:

HUMM WATS THA FUNCTION OF THA tps ?

da1stegr says:

The easiest way to get the rivets (screws) out of the tps and MOST people
DON’T KNOW is to use is a needle nose vise – grip and turn the flat little
round plate around the screw counter-clock-wise trust me you will break it
loose actually it just turns with ease. And it’s easier to do this with the
throttle-body out off the car because of space constrains and yes its easy
to do and be careful not to damage the throttle-body gasket upon removal of
the throttle-body, it’s very delicate.

td1238 says:

charging and loads are imposed upon the electrical system, there will be
voltage drop across those wires, and the voltage there will not be the same
0 volts that the computer references. It will, rather, be either negative
or positive with reference to this point, depending on the situation. That
said, when measuring voltage at the TPS, only the TPS ground should be used
as a reference.

malakautube says:

@JRT3000 as name suggest it measure the throttle position or how much the
throttle is opened or closed.

Justin Crediblename says:

@LpJr99 You might have to take the tb to the hardware store/specialty
fastener store and install the tps while you’re in the screw isle. Then
Please come back and note the screw pattern so I can put it in the
description!
