Honda Odyssey Sliding Door Repair the 'Easy' Way

Honda Odyssey Sliding Door Repair the 'Easy' Way

My friends 2006 Honda Odyssey’s doors weren’t working properly. Sometimes they wouldn’t close. Sometimes they wouldn’t open all the way. The most common cause of this problem is worn door rollers. This video shows how to replace those door rollers the ‘easy’ way that will take you half the time that the factory procedure would.

This video will apply to most Honda Odyssey’s up to the 4th generation. In other words, Honda Odyssey’s from 1998-2017.

Here is my older video showing the ‘proper’ procedure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2PLiI6yv74

Excellent and fun to watch. Exactly the info I needed.

Todd Asper says:

Thank you! The doors were so frustrating, it would take several tries each time to open or close. The kids have been asking and asking for a new van. I thought it would be a super costly or time consuming fix, and put off looking into it for a long time. A couple hours of work later and both doors are fixed! Three of four of the sliding wheels were completely gone. Only correction is that I'm pretty sure the amber light goes on the bottom, not top when putting the tail light back together. Anyone doing it double check for yourself.

Jeremy Brandl says:

I don't have enough slack and can't find a video of how to get to it from the rear passenger door. There is an ac unit or something in the way

So what happens when the plastic guide is missing

Thank You. Very helpful video

Noah Harris says:

You should’ve turned off the power sliding door it would’ve been the same thing

Maniakle Maniac says:

What happens if my door does not open at all? As in it is stuck shut.

Joey Martin says:

I have a kia Sedona that has the same play has shown in the video. The rollers are metal and look much better than. Could it just be the cables that need tensioning?

Juan carlos solache says:

Bro I need help on the Fuse Box on front I have a problem with the Fuse # 15. Can you help me with that problem. Honda odyssey 2010

Dustin Savage says:

Anyone else also gluing their headlight component back together?

Jack June says:

video at 1:37 shows the door the last second of closing….right there is when my door doesn't close all the way tight and I have to do a body check on it to shut it tight or my constant buzzer while driving keeps buzzing as a warning that something is open….do you feel there is some sensor that finishes that 1/4 inch seal at the 1:37 seconds of the video? My other sliding door closes fine and seals shut.
thanks

Ben Traore says:

Does the toyota sienna has a same problem as the honda odyssey

Phyllip Moore says:

Very Very Good Video. You didn't waste anyone's time, you know exactly what you are doing, and you gave multiple scenarios for each fix. Awesome.

Rob Anderson says:

Great video. This was my issue, solved it in about an hour. Still have issues with the buttons opening the door, but once you manually start it at the door the electrics take over, and it's great. Thanks for such a great explanation!!!

Eric Hall says:

great video, thanks for taking the time to post this. I would have one suggestion I picked up from another video, and that is to punch out the pin while it is still attached to the door. This way you don't need to realign the door, and it will fit perfectly. To punch the pin you can tap on it from the top, and then pry it out with a small pry bar or screw driver underneath, and then finally with a larger screw driver taping on the head from the top, just like removing the pin from a door hinge. replacing is quicker, you have room to get a small hammer underneath and tap it in.

Rachel Miller says:

Thank you soooo much for this detailed video. I was literally unable to get my kids in carline because the plastic wheels on this piece had broken off and disappeared, so neither door would close. I ordered the part and repaired both doors for a total of $32!!!! Awesome!

Timothy Koss says:

A big help, thank you Sir. Unfortunately my right side is still hanging up after I found part of the roller wheel that needed replacement so I performed the repair as you showed and it works great manually. Any additional suggestions after I reset the code and it comes back with the “Slide Door” light and stops working? -Thanks!

Cherilyn Shelby says:

My husband bought the parts needed and he and a friend who is a mechanic worked on putting the part (s) in. Now, it's in but the door still doesn't work. Could there possibly be another reason for the door not to open automatically? Thanks

Joan Candalino says:

Thanks to your excellent step by step instructions I now have a sliding door that opens!
(Also, thanks for teaching me that the windows in the doors open.)
Now, why does the other door not even try to open (no motor noise)?
