I just did this today. A few notes from my ’07 Ody: T30 bit used to release the airbag portion, but regular Phillips used to take off the lower plastic guard under the steering wheel. Biggest problems were removing the roll pins that lock the key cylinder together. For the first one that you just ‘Tapped Out’ after loosening, I had to cut away the corner that confined it with a dremel wheel. For the last pin, I removed that long lever and drilled a hole down through the channel to it.Thanks!

Flip Keys says:

I am glad that it helped you in repairing your lock.
Someday I will try to visit you for the drink, ohhhh.. You forgot to mention your address
Joking 🙂
Cheers

You are right, Cars which doesn’t have immobilizer can be repaired even without taking the lock out of steering column but we normally recommend that for professional use only as it is hardest to repair with lock inside the car. Some complicacy may arise if you accidentally rotate the steering wheel when lock barrel is out and it gets locked. It’s rear but may then require you to take the whole lock out and rotate it anti-clockwise with a long screwdriver by inserting it at lock barrel’s place.

I just wanted to thank you so much for showing us how to fix the damaged wafers in the ignition. The hardest part is getting that first pin out. I dang near went mad. Took about an hour before I got it out. Slightly different than your directions. I never removed the unit from the steering column. Honda Element ’05.

I removed all the wafers and now I can pull the key out while it’s running. Not bad. Anyhow, you saved me $500 roughly, so I owe you a drink or something.

DahrkDaiz says:

Thanks for the video! It saved me hundreds of dollars in repairs!

Flip Keys says:

For programming you can use Silca SBB or other programming device

If you don’t have access to these device then we have uploaded one more video on taking the sensor out of Old Honda Key which then can be used in new key to start the car.

Flip Keys says:

Yes It is difficult to take the lock out of steering colomn. Normally we recommend to get it out, take help from some professional but soon we will be uploading a new video on How to take the lock out without breaking the bolts and reuse the same bolt to fit it back.

cmrovira says:

Thanks from me too…..This video saved me a packet!….Only thing missing is that the removal of the whole ignition module is a bit difficult. Honda have attached it with 2 headless bolts that are hard to remove. I ended up drilling the heads off the bolts and replacing them with 8mm bolts with proper heads on them….I also had trouble getting the pin out at 3:21, but it did eventually come out. I removed the worn levers and now car is perfect!

Eduardo Ocampo says:

hi I replaced my ignition switch cylinder w/ keys in my odyssey 03 but now if dosent start what can I do

Flip Keys says:

I have repaired more than 2000 honda locks and have found that some locks have missing pin/lever. I think it is some sort of manufacturing mistake. It can also be intentional to make some sort of MASTER KEY to work on that lock but I couldn’t spot any definate pattern of key to support this theory.

Flip Keys says:

Hi dl3mcd3
Removing the lever and doesn’t replacing them back will not cause any problem. It will just make the probality higher that some other honda key might start working in that lock but that is acceptable as no one has time to try 100’s of key to open a car.

dl3mcd3 says:

Thanks for the video! I followed this advice to remove and repair a 2008 lock cylinder. My only problem was removing the pin at 3:21 in the video — but it did eventually come out. I did not replace worn out pieces (2 of them), I just removed them. Funny thing, Honda did not include 1 piece, there was just an empty slot with no lever and no spring. This was much better than the Many-100’s-of-Dollars the dealer wanted for parts and/or repair. Thanks!

Flip Keys says:

If you are changing the ignition lock and getting a new key with them then you can match using Silca SBB or any other compatible key programming or scanning device. In your case, can you be specific why are you changing ignition cylinder as repairing doesn’t requires reprogramming.

Joel N says:

if I replace the lock cylinder how do I reprogram the anti theft?
