Good Job.
Imagine that you have a shorted ignition coil which is number 2, then may fry driver 4 and 5!!!!
Why you don't test an ignition coil by hand external.

Andrew W MacFadyen says:

Back in my younger years when engines and ignition systems were less hi-tech we saw a lot of worn out engines with this kind of issue on a weekly basis, in those times common trick was to fit a hotter (sometimes called a softer) spark plug. We would replace say an Champion N9Y with an N12Y as a short term fix.

Geert van den Elsen says:

Hi Paul and Caleb,
Thank you again for this great video!! In my opinion it is always a good first step to swap the coil and plug to an more exessable location. Not only for easier acces but also to eliminate an failing fuel injector or enginefailure for that cilinder. For me an small step in between.

Oké boys; marry Christmas and al the best for this new year.

Cheers from the Netherlands

James Barratt says:

clearly by the few videos you have done with the ultra, you obviously dont like it. theres your review without you even having to say it. this car you went to it saying you only had a little battery in your verus, but not saying you even had the ultra with you. obviously you did not. So again another confirmation I think that you dont like it.

Mr Blonde says:

Would it not be simpler to move the plug and coil from the suspect cylinder to two good cylinders?

Bill Rimmer says:

Super good vid. I liked the use of the amp clamp showing primary pattern. Also the order of the steps. Thank u! Excellent editing and camera work Caleb!!

Ism Wald04 says:

Hello Mr Dan.
Why you don't make video about coding unit or programming computer.
Or something like that?
Thank you

Detailed Auto Diagnostics says:

I've lost count on how many years I have been checking out these videos…real time content….see you at training!!!!

Jacob Taft says:

Hey, enjoyed the video. That Honda needs a VCM muzzler and of course a set of plugs. It has cylinder deactivation on cyls 1,2,3, it seems that it creates a vacuum in those cylinders pulling more oil in and oil fouling the plugs… keep up the great work Paul and Caleb, I guess Danner deserves some praise as well.

DouglasH says:

Hi Paul, and Kaleb, AND the Bearded one, great video, Nice to be working outside in December in Pa.Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to the Danner Family!!

100ega says:

question. 2014 chrysler 300 3.6l what about if you swap a good working coil with good signals power and ground,
swap a good working spark plug, a tested good injector, with +10 condition only on LONG trims, SHORTS trims normal on + & – numbers, and cranking sound evenly??

White Tiger says:

Thanks Guys!

RadarUser says:

I owned this car with the same engine 3.5L V6 except mine was a 2008. I owned it since it was new from the dealer. I kept taking it back for this misfire issue and they kept telling me I was crazy. Come to find out, the VCM feature (variable cylinder management) shuts off the rear bank of Cylinders in 3 cyl or 4 cyl mode. If you check all 3 rear cylinders all the spark plugs will be fouled but the front is clean. This fouling problem happens on highway driving or coasting when cylinders are deactivated to save fuel. However the intake valves still open, thus EGR pumps soot and oil into the rear bank fouling the plugs but never burning the recirculating exhaust gases. So my solution was a cheaper 2 year spark plug change and I never had a misfire for the life of ownership.

As soon as I saw this video I knew what it was because I owned this car for so long before selling it. It's not a horrible issue if you just keep up maintenence on the spark plugs. The engine never burned any oil, it was simply a problem with the VCM feature from Honda. Honda even provided a software update to help the issue. I never tried it. I'm not a mechanic so I didn't bother with it.

Brannon Ramgeet says:

Honda dealer tech here knew the issue minute I saw it was a v6 rear bank had luck at the dealer soaking the cylinders with a solvent

zeke112964 says:

How would you do this on a 4 cylinder with a single 4 plug coil pack with a ignition control unit?

Joseph Wash says:

In a pinch, I've found that carburetor cleaner spray works great for cleaning spark plugs.
