Thanx Bro. Mine is a 2004 and has electrical running through a box on the
drivers side of the intake that is bolted onto it. Rather than get involved
with this I took off the top radiator hose and removed the vent intake,
then just moved the intake out towards the drivers side and let it sit
there while I worked the starter. Everything worked out great. Thanx for
the video.

william Kneisel says:

This video worked like a charm 3hrs start to finish. Wife thinks I am a
genius

Hi Jerry, I changed the strarter ona ’02 crv according to your video any
every thing turned ot fine, exept that it won’t start now. The starter
works great but wont fire up. the car was siiting for a couple of weeks
without a battery. got any ideas? Thanks.

AH64armament says:

Thanks for sharing this. I watched it several times, then referred to it
as I changed mine out.
I had a very difficult time removing the intake manifold once it was
disconnected – brute force was the key.
I also had a rough time with the bolts for the starter – the 17mm seemed to
have some powdery stuff all over it and the threads seemed to have some
gunk in it. I wonder if they had some sort of Loc-Tite added to it. I had
to get a #12-1.25 nut from the hardware store to try to clean up the
threads. I also got a 90mm long bolt that was similar, though I managed to
re-use the bolt that I had removed.

The car starts easily now. I’ll check it in the morning when it’s cold out
as that’s when I had the most difficulty.

Billie Cabral says:

Yay! Got the starter replaced and it fixed my problem (most people never
re-post what the solution to what their problem was). Video was VERY
helpful. I needed a breaker bar for the bolts on the starter (I’m a weenie
arm). Used a flat-head to get hoses off as some were crusted on. Took me 2
1/2 hours and some stuff was a tight fit as it doesn’t look so bad on the
video I’m a novice. Got the part on Amazon for $50 less than the local
parts store and it fit exactly (kinda funny it was a re-man GM part) Thanks
a TON!!! I will have to disagree though. I don’t call it a fun project ;)

Daves AllTalk says:

thanks were going to give it a shot tom great video

Sharon Owens says:

I am trying to pull out the manifold and can’t find a way to get it out.
The only thing not disconnected is the throttle cables. They are not shown
in your video. I have an 04 cr-v. There doesn’t seem enough space to pull
it out. I have tried various angles. Please help!

Matt Tiller says:

When reattaching the intake manifold do you need any gaskets or sealants?

Doug Crombie says:

You make it look so easy! Thanks for the excellent video.

Billie Cabral says:

Great Video!!! I’m having to do this over the weekend. For Eddie Regory’s
post. My Crv had mad a couple of (to put into letters) errrrrrrrrrrrrrr
sounds when starting, coming from the ignition. I’m assuming it is some
sort of back feed from the starter. Anyways now it will not start and taps
at the starter. I am replacing it first and hopefully that fixes it.

devildog832916 says:

I tried the tricks and tips and it was very helpful. Thanks a lot.

Mark M says:

Jerry. Great video. Made the process much easier and increased confidence
to remove the intake manifold. Removal took about 2 hours from start to
finish. Installation 2 hours start to finish. Much appreciate.

Eddie Regory says:

hi,

I have a crv 2002 and sometimes is makes this hissing sound when I turn the
key then I turn it again and it will start. does this mean I may have a
starter problem

crz666 says:

Excellent video, thank you very much!! Getting ready to do this!!

The Stiver says:

Btw if it helps anyone else this was the same on my 2011, as it is with any
02-15 CRV

Darwin Benitez says:

Hey, just want to thank you for posting this video. My starter finally gave
out. It took me 3hrs but I got it done. Thanks again.

josebreco says:

jerry would this video help me get my crv 2007 get repaired?
i just used my car on off road and then when I tried to start it, it did
not . the battery was ok it just did not start.

zviangi says:

Great video!
Your video really helped me to remove my starter, I replaced brushes with
new one. Only thing is, I installed everything back, cranked the car,
seemed like everything is OK, but later it got acting weirdly, the
acceleration is popping up and down, when in neutral, or P mode. This
inconsistent acceleration affects also when driving 🙂 apparently I missed
to plug back some hose, or jack, thou I kinda did not miss any. Will have
to look in back again, to find a problem 🙂

sahib afandiyev says:

wonderful

The Stiver says:

Wow. I was having trouble finding the bolt under the manifold with the
engine out of the car but with this video I got it w/o removing the
manifold

Bicol Storm says:

Jerry, Thank you for sharing this video. I am a mechanic hobbyist and I
once in a while work on other people’s cars to earn a few dollars on the
side to help pay the bills (& beer). Anyway, this morning I got a call from
a lady who wants me to replace the starter in her Honda CRV. When I found
out that I have to replace the intake manifold to reach the starter, I had
to turn down the job and referred her to a shop that I know that is honest.

After watching your video, I felt that I should have accepted the job. It
will take me about 3.5 hours (realistically) to complete the job but I
would have earned a little bit today. Anyways, the next time I get a
starter replacement job for a Honda CRV, I will definitely take it.

Thank you again for sharing this repair video.

josebreco says:

yeah , it was the starter , when I approach to get a new one they charged
$2000,here in Costa Rica,? I am giving a thought to get by amazon or ebay
it will be just $500.

Pete Oswalt says:

This is great. One question. At Napa you can buy a starter or a starter w/
solenoid. Which do I buy?

Martin Whipkey says:

Jerry- I’m working on my 04 CRV now trying to get the manifold off to get
to the starter as your video shows, but my setup looks a little bit
different than yours for some reason. I can’t seem to get the two tubes
that are connected to the bottom of that first metal piece you took off
before the manifold (as you can tell I’m not well versed in car
maintenance) to come off. I moved down the little clamps already, but they
won’t budge…any suggestions?

TJinSG says:

Hey Jerry, I’m the guy that has the video of taking out the starter from
the bottom, the bolt on the back side of the starter was not hard to get
out, true, a guy with big hands might have some difficulty getting to the
back bolt, but then he will have a problem getting to some of the
connections, nuts and bolts from the top also. You did a good video for
giving guys an idea of what to look for from the top so one way or the
other they can get it done. Also, going from the bottom took me about 1 1/2
hours, start to finish. Next time would be a lot faster because I know what
to do now.

Charly says:

Great video, very helpful. I tried first by the bottom. I believe if you
can loose the 17mm bolt from the bottom, you can finish the job from there,
For me was impossible, the thread had some lock glue from factory, Pull out
the intake, was a piece of cake. Honda’s electric plugs, hoses, clamps, are
forever. Very good quality. Took me 45 minutes to pull it out, and I reused
the same rubber o’rings for the intake manifold gasket. Another 45 minutes
to install it back. (Honda CRV 2005).
Thank you,

Sharon Owens says:

Yes I removed it, the throttle cable box is attached and the bolts from
where I took off the intake manifold stick out .

theereport01 says:

Hi Jerry, Thanks for the video. In your video you mentioned that a fluid
will come out when you unplug the tubes at the bottom.
Do you know what fluid it is?

Thanks!

patrioty3k says:

Hey Jerry, don’t know if you are around but i have an ’03 crv where did you
disconnect the accelerator cables?Starting this project now…thanks Jim

Josh Vitolo says:

Great method I like how it’s just the manifold that comes off

PACHECO MOBILE AUTO REPAIR says:

good video: nice and easy!!!!

obabob1 says:

Ordered a starter from Amazon. Do I need to replace the intake manifold
gasket on my 190,000 mile 03 CR-V?

pochoun33137 says:

Man, don’t really know why Honda did this. I remember when changing a
starter in a 1998-2002 Accord, the job was relatively simple. The starter
was only somewhere on top of the actual transaxle smh

Bless.

gabantha1959 says:

Nice one! Thanks for taking the trouble to shoot the video and sharing!

I probably will never be in this situation where I need to do something
mechanical like that, but I still watch your videos because they are
interesting. Good job!
