Reusing the old housing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p669oEntN88
I planned on rebuilding the distributor on my truck, but the NEW housing was no good so I reused the old one. These same procedures are necessary when replacing the pickup coil, distributor gear, or ignition module.

Keith Hudson says:

would it not be cheaper and faster to just buy a whole new distributer I found them on amazon for 50 to 60 dollars ?

Stovebolt56 says:

Your distributor hold down clamp is bent. 0.080" is not enough to cause the housing to not tighten. The clamp is bent!

David Potter says:

I'm rebuilding the distributor in my brothers 94, 450k miles, driven daily, bought it 1 year old. Original distributor.

Shanon Boykin says:

When you pry the rotor off will it have any magnetic pull to the shaft using a screwdriver?

John Stephens says:

Forgot a spacer on bottom of shaft supposed to go on before washer

ערן תומר says:

i bought new ac delco housing and the flange is indeed thinner than the factory but i didn't have the problem of the clamp not tightening it down.

Check for gear wear and retainer pin slippage as well.

Great video. I'm working on an 89 GMC truck and have gone through everything except the distributor to fix a rough idle. This will be the next thing and you gave me some ideas on what to look for.

dickey moore says:

How did you put the gear back on,does it have to be pressed on and pulled off I can't get my gear off the pin is out?

Sounds for your Soul says:

I bought a new distributor from a local performance shop that is very poor quality. You do a great job instructing on how to rebuild my OEM. I will be rebuilding my original even if it is just to keep it on hand. However the shaft link Amazon states it is not for my vehicle. Do I trust them (lol) I have 88 Suburban 350
Great Job

Lorry Linn says:

He's got it aligned in the wrong position for it to seat. His clamp is supposed to be bent. Rotate the spindle one position at a time and try to reinstall eventually it will seat. Just be sure your not off 180°

James Farmer says:

you can get a delphi dizzy for like 160 bucks on rock auto. my 92 Blazer with over 300 000 miles had so much play on the rotor button from the worn out bushing. Great idea with the crowfoot socket for the hold down bolt, those dizzy wrenches were getting me nowhere but ready to throw something.

SKNE WINNY says:

cz8c says:

I just ordered a new set of those ICM screws off Rock Auto for $9 because the rust was triggering my OCD. AC Delco Part #10469668. Kinda shitty no one includes new ones with the ICMs when you order them, because those screws do ground.

Very informative. Thanks for making this video. It answered literally everything I needed to know about how to rebuild the bottom end of the HEI. I wasted time on 3 other videos that were supposed to answer that question, among others. I think you should have a website if you don't, and you should take donations through Paypal or whatever. I'd send you probably 20 bucks or more, because I think it will end up saving me a ton of time and money. I subscribed to your channel, and any 350 Chevy videos like this with proper steps part names and precautions I will be looking forward to. Thank you.
