I planned on rebuilding the distributor on my truck, but the NEW housing was no good so I reused the old one. These same procedures are necessary when replacing the pickup coil, distributor gear, or ignition module.

would it not be cheaper and faster to just buy a whole new distributer I found them on amazon for 50 to 60 dollars ?
Your distributor hold down clamp is bent. 0.080" is not enough to cause the housing to not tighten. The clamp is bent!
I'm rebuilding the distributor in my brothers 94, 450k miles, driven daily, bought it 1 year old. Original distributor.
When you pry the rotor off will it have any magnetic pull to the shaft using a screwdriver?
Forgot a spacer on bottom of shaft supposed to go on before washer
i bought new ac delco housing and the flange is indeed thinner than the factory but i didn't have the problem of the clamp not tightening it down.
Check for gear wear and retainer pin slippage as well.
Na, I mark number 1 firing order is 18436572. Lol I need to how much time for pick up coil replace. Flag hours coast monthly bills
Great video. I'm working on an 89 GMC truck and have gone through everything except the distributor to fix a rough idle. This will be the next thing and you gave me some ideas on what to look for.
How did you put the gear back on,does it have to be pressed on and pulled off I can't get my gear off the pin is out?
I bought a new distributor from a local performance shop that is very poor quality. You do a great job instructing on how to rebuild my OEM. I will be rebuilding my original even if it is just to keep it on hand. However the shaft link Amazon states it is not for my vehicle. Do I trust them (lol) I have 88 Suburban 350
Great Job
He's got it aligned in the wrong position for it to seat. His clamp is supposed to be bent. Rotate the spindle one position at a time and try to reinstall eventually it will seat. Just be sure your not off 180°
I removed my cap and found lots of magnets all over i got no spark after i removed all the parts should im noy a mechanic just don't have money at this time im diy could this be my problem i install a new ignition coil no spark
Dude you crack me up!
you can get a delphi dizzy for like 160 bucks on rock auto. my 92 Blazer with over 300 000 miles had so much play on the rotor button from the worn out bushing. Great idea with the crowfoot socket for the hold down bolt, those dizzy wrenches were getting me nowhere but ready to throw something.
shes done. will be ordering a new dist for my 89 350. hopefully solves my engine acting like its redlining at 2k rpm.
CLAMPS GOES ON TOP OF THE INNER RING, NOT ON THE OUTSIDE, LIKE THE OEM
Great video. I can't find new distributor housings anywhere.
Very helpful video! Incredibly informative
Will a Vortec engine distributor work (95-98) on this truck?
Does 335$ sound right to replace the whole distributor in a gmc suburban 1991?
what air cleaner are you using? I need one.
It's not hording it warehousing
I just ordered a new set of those ICM screws off Rock Auto for $9 because the rust was triggering my OCD. AC Delco Part #10469668. Kinda shitty no one includes new ones with the ICMs when you order them, because those screws do ground.
Very informative. Thanks for making this video. It answered literally everything I needed to know about how to rebuild the bottom end of the HEI. I wasted time on 3 other videos that were supposed to answer that question, among others. I think you should have a website if you don't, and you should take donations through Paypal or whatever. I'd send you probably 20 bucks or more, because I think it will end up saving me a ton of time and money. I subscribed to your channel, and any 350 Chevy videos like this with proper steps part names and precautions I will be looking forward to. Thank you.
