If you haven’t changed the transmission fluid and filter in some time, you may want to start with that first. A clogged filter or a piece of debris floating around in the fluid may cause your transmission to do this. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Thanks Mike. Since you are knowledgeable on the 96 tahoes with 5.7 vortec’s, I had a question. My 96 tahoe is not shifting correctly, but only has trouble seeing the gears after I come to a stop. When I first take off it shifts fine, once I brake, it can’t see the gears without restarting, then it repeats. Any thoughts like vaccuum lines or tranny clutch or something else? Has anyone ever heard of this before or is this common. Mine has about 280k mi as well…thanks. Stranded Mom in Arizona 🙁

You may want to check the production date of your truck to see if there’s a cut off date and a possible change in parts on your particular year. If you would like to call our sales staff, we can get the correct parts out to you. We carry some great brake pads and rotor kits for all kinds of different vehicles. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I picked my parts up at the parts store. Told them I have a 91 Chevy C1500. The discs I took off the car are not the same as the ones I was sold. The ones on my truck did not come off the same as your video they have a cap over the center covering a set bolted in and greased bearings.. Im confused….

Algonkin1964 says:

Oh! I forgot to add …I have always used a C-Clamp to re-position the Caliper piston. I have rarely bled my brake system when doing this procedure. Glad to know I’m not the only one doing this. Using a separate wrench for leverage is also a technique I use..

Algonkin1964 says:

Very very nice video… well explained. Thanks!

1aauto says:

You might be able to. Usually there are a couple of bolts that hold them in place. I have seen them sandwiched between the knuckle and the hub on some vehicles though.

Michael McSherry says:

The dust guard in front of the caliper, can it be replaced without removing the axel assembly.
Thank you
Michael

I tried a 3/8″ allen key on my calipers but would not go in. I had to go buy a 9mm allen key to get them off.

At about 3:00, that is not a cresent wrench .. 🙂 thanks for the video, pretty helpful

1aauto says:

You need to press in the caliper piston and then insert them into the bracket. You might want to apply some grease to the metal slides to allow them to move freely.

briggs1devon says:

You just pry pads off? How do u put new ones on?

1aauto says:

There should be a bleeder on the caliper somewhere so that you can bleed the system.

Scorpio76688 says:

Is there a video on how to bleed the brakes on the a 96 chevy silverado k1500?

I changed the brakes and rotors but the brakes feel spongy. I didn’t see the bleader valve on the caliper. Any help would be much appreciated

1aauto says:

You may want to see if you have a caliper hanging up.

1aauto says:

It should be the same or fairly similar.

Joshua DiChello says:

I have a 98 chevy w/t 1500 RWD only is it the same?

k conroy says:

nice vid… make more how to videos!!!

1aauto says:

Should be the same.

frank81g87 says:

I did all of that and my driverside rim was smoking

chris laughlin says:

Thank you so much
And this will work for a 1997 silverado 1500 z71 correct

catdog205 says:

Be warned. My 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe has a rotor assembly. You can beat on the back of that rotor for days it will not come off. Unscrew the hub nut add the rotor assembly comes off.

MadSmokerBBQ says:

great how-to thanks!

1aauto says:

They sell an EZ-Out socket that removes rounded bolts. If you can get on on there you should be able to remove it.

stephen phillips says:

1aauto says:

You should replace them in pairs.

Terceira73 says:

If u replace one rotor do u have to replace the other if it’s still nice and smooth?

1aauto says:

We sure do. Here’s a link to the video for you. youtube.com/watch?v=dS5bwkwgQDA&feature=relmfu

Sal Lo Vullo says:

1aauto says:

They enable the screw to slide through the caliper when you tighten it.
