[HOW TO] Install a Catch Can on a 2014-2018 GMC Sierra (5.3L)

UPDATE: The brand of catch can that I currently have is no longer on the market. If you want a quality made catch can and cleanside separator kit, look up Elite Engineering. They make a quality product, made in the USA. Visit their website here http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/

For Direct Injection motors, use the E2-X catch can by Elite Engineering.

A video describing how to install an RX Performance PCV Catch Can on a 2014 GMC Sierra with a 5.3L Ecotec3 motor. This will be the same on 2015 models as well, including Chevrolet Silverado’s equipped with a 5.3L motor. 4.3L V6 and 6.2L V8 models have a slightly different hose route, but the benefit is the same. A catch can will help to keep PCV oil vapor out of the intake. This helps to keep the intake valves free from coking and sludge, which long term will increase the longevity of a direct injected motor.

Would/could one splice the original hose and use a nipple/coupler to attach? Thus reducing the possibility of damage to the valve cover bib.?

jorden Shba9a says:

Hey , do i need to install this to my gmc sierra 2016 5.3 , or the manufacturer did this to the stock car ( so they put the breather in the intake directly ) hope you got my point .

Crater Raker says:

can a remote oil filter adapter with an oil filter installed be used instead of a more expensive "catch can"? Thanks

kevin122759 says:

This should have been done from the factory when they went to direct injection. I am going to do this to mine. The only upgrade I see that is necessary.

Jimmy Kimber says:

with the airaid intake that i have do u just plug the holes in the airaid tube the same way like u did on the factory one

I have a 2015 with the 5.3. I ordered a oil catch can for my Silverado but the catch can has a breather cap on top of it. (All Star Performance) Will that make a difference?

WTXRebel says:

Could this void the powertrain warranty though? >.<

Carlos Cruz says:

Questions; why a catch can on a 5.3? What are the issues that leads to recommending this? What are the pros and cons of this install?
