back some 20 years ago I found out that Chevy had ground like this but hidden on the back of the cylinder head there was a harness ground that could cause wacky things to happen if the connection was bad. One would think a bad ground might show up as a charging system problem, but that had its own ground to the chassis and battery. As I recall, in my case it caused an issue with the fuel pump and because they were using a plastic tank it had its own ground in the harness.
Key word is "sometimes".
