GMC/Chevy/GM Truck Brake Switch Replacement

GMC/Chevy/GM Truck Brake Switch Replacement

A quick video showing how to replace the brake switch on a GM truck. This particular 2009 Sierra has adjustable pedals so those without may be a different process. This solved my cruise control problem as well as an occasional traction control warning light. I was also not able to use the remote start prior to the repair.

I would suggest buying the OEM part rather than the one shown in the video. It failed on me a few months later and I had to install a new switch.

I am not a mechanic; just a do-it-yourselfer that saw a need for this video.

Found your video at 1 in the morning watching some overwatch (I've previously had videos of DIY repairs for vehicles) I didn't know what happened to my cruise control but it went out one day asked around people told me it was a leak in some type of hose. Looked for it and no leak. I've been driving without a cc for nearly a year haha. But this fixed it right up. It was the same issue it turned on but it would never set. I do remember taking it to the auto parts store to get it scanned but I wasn't informed of the switch code and basically gave up. But thanks for doing a good video! I spent $23 on it and it took me about 30 mins to fix. That dang clip was a #$@%!

2011 suburban cruise not working changed the brake switch, still getting no indication light on dash but button light does come on. Still not engaging wonder if I was sold a bad one.

I had replaced one of these several years ago, but I forgot about twisting the shaft to disengage it from the brake pedal pin. In less than a minute, your video had me back on track. THANKS!

Anyone having trouble poping off the clip? Don't want to break it!

If you get this same messages on your dash board. PLEASE try this first! I saw the posting late after replacing the throttle body and having to buy a new harness locally because the old one got messed up when changing the throttle body. This could’ve been a 30$ dollar fix. But turned out to be over 120 dollars. Still better than the 500$ repair bill at the dealership

Done this before but wasnt sure if it was a 10mm bolt. Glad you included the required socket. Thanks.
