Pirates MUST fix Ke'Bryan Hayes & others to reach MLB playoffs? Steelers can't lose George Pickens?

On his daily First 10 podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey has New Year’s resolutions for the Pirates, Penguins & Steelers.

Why should GM Ben Cherington and the Pirates be most focused on getting more from players already on their roster, such as Ke’Bryan Hayes, Jack Suwinski and Henry Davis? As opposed to making moves in the MLB trade and free agency markets? And what could bounce-back seasons from these hitters do to support Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller, Jared Jones and other members of the pitching staff?

Does it make the most sense for Penguins GM Kyle Dubas to be looking to trade names such as Tristan Jarry, Rickard Rakell, Marcus Pettersson and others before the NHL trade deadline?

And on the Steelers front, why are the futures of names like George Pickens, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren so critical to the looming NFL offseason?

I like your take on the Pirates: the glass is half full. Thanks for your realistic optimism, Jason.
