Joseph Chapman says:

Dear Mr Alternatorman, I have a 1995 Chevy 1-ton van (5.7L), was wondering which model of alternator I would have? I am thinking the voltage reg. is bad.

alternatorman says:

You can attach a line with a potentiometer to the voltage sense pin, this will let you increase the voltage output. You can also replace your voltage regulator with an adjustable model.

squeak7411 says:

i have a high output cs144 in a 1996 . i was wondering what i need to set my voltage to a higher set point than 14.7 maybe somewhere around 16 volts

alternatorman says:

You either have a Delco DR44G or a Bosch type alternator. We have parts available at our site, there is a link in the video description.

billballsack adams says:

what Alternator is in a 06 GMC SIERRA 1500 ?? can i get a rebuild kit for it ?? if so where ??????

alternatorman says:

You could have a bad rectifier, a bad ground connection, or a bad plug connection. I would try adding a ground cable directly from the battery negative to your alternator case, then replacing the bridge rectifier.

musiclovr2 says:

hi my alt is charging, but the volt gauge is fluctuating from 14/12/16 ect… could the rectifier be bad, or a diode?, its a newer alt but is charging, thanks for help, it is a gm delco remy 1992 gmc 4×4 350ci

electric cro says:

i like your video it learn me something

seeradog says:

Same as a GM Holden commodore 2008 omega v6 alloy tech engine alternator .. Cost new $800 au here in Australia . I just replaced one in daughters car .. I’m going to use your cud to try and rebuild her old one .. Do you have an email so I can send pictures ??

seeradog says:

This alternator looks exactly l

Azn69Knight says:

actually nevermind, I think my alternator is inadequate for high output duty since its casing is really small. I’ll probably just save up for a proper H/O alt

Azn69Knight says:

does your company have a limited selection to the vehicles you listed? i have a 2003 corolla and i want to try to upgrade my 80 amp alternator to a 130~160 amp alt via rebuild save on costs. i’m wondering if you can point me in the right direction because google has not been fruitful for me.

alternatorman says:

Yes, we have a number upgrade kits and parts available. All it involves is upgrading the bridge rectifier and stator. For the CS144 we have a pre-assembled dual rectifier rear housing complete with stator. We also have the Quicktifier for upgrading alternators that don’t have a heavy duty rectifier available.

Azn69Knight says:

can you rebuild your stock alt into a high output alternator?

Larry Brown says:

I corrected my amp draw problem. Had to step up to a 140amp alternator.

Ronald Campbell says:

This a good video of Basic auto alternator workings. REMEMBER we are heading towards the totally electric engine.Put allthis in your pipe and smoke it. ProfessorRonnie Redford.

pacayabu says:

no, tonto los amperios lo producen el estator y el rotor el puente rectificador es para producir d.c si quieres mas amperios pon un alternador mas grande

Sheldon851 says:

the bridge rectifier connects to the bridge rectifier and the bridge rectifier is a bridge rectifier I love the bridge rectifier!

bhstone1 says:

You rebuild alternators like a boss!

W31350 says:

thanks for posting

Tayyab Chaudhry says:

so if i want more amps, i replace with a bigger bridge rectifier?

Notofthisworld13 says:

Very good video. Thanks for posting.

Vulcan750L says:

Why are alternators AC if everything in a car is DC?

Don’t you lose efficiency having to convert from AC to DC?

How much energy loss is there in the conversion from AC to DC?

hp11208 says:

where do i buy the parts for rebuilding alternator

grifflesnaffle says:

Since alternators use a bridge rectifier with diodes to convert the AC current to DC current, can I just remove the bridge rectifier and then use the AC current that the alternator puts out to power home tools and light bulbs, etc.? If this is the case, what voltage would the alternator be putting out? Thanks in advance for a quick response. And thank you for this very informative video. Keep it up!

cshans07 says:

Awesome man. So helpful. Keep the bids comming

First2ner says:

how do you know if regulator or rectifier did go?

SY1WEK says:

cheers thnx 4 the video

IdunCareLesSn00b says:

Some you cant just take apart like that they are pressed together into the bearings.

lioxait says:

how to check the stator with those 3 wires if it’s ok?thnx

chicks123 says:

Thanks for posting this. I learned a lot!

nowhere8 says:

Cool stuff!!…Can you do one for a 98 ford contour!? I have one collecting dust…pretty sure it just needs a new alternator. 🙂

alternatorman says:

The leads that come off the stator are AC current. Most alternators have three sets of windings.

alternatorman says:

Alternators make AC current just like what comes out of the electrical outlet at home. Then they use a bridge rectifier with diodes to convert the AC current to DC current for the vehicles battery & electrical system

inak121 says:

great video and thanks for taking the time to do this!

Will McConnel says:

car alternators only put out a dc current man

honda4004 says:

hi i am told that it is possible to get massive ac voltage out of an alternator by rewinding it some how.would you know as i am researching plasma ignition which requires a high as possible ac voltage thank you

alternatorman says:

How all alternators work are basicly the same but how they are put together may be different. Also some have internal voltage regulators and some have external voltage regulators. Some of the later alternators even work with the vehicles engine management computer to tell it to change fuel output based on how much load the alternator is putting on the motor. The higher output an alternator goes the greater load it puts on the motor.

cholote313 says:

i was wandering in the inside is it all the same in cars or different cuz i am having problems with my car

dallasgoldbug says:

Good walkthrough. Very informative and thorough.
Thanks for posting.

leetpg says:

Nice video man. Do you think its possible for a user(i do know a fair bit about this stuff) to repair the bearings in the alternator?

evillive321 says:

that was gr8…i liked the way to was explaining…..we need more of that stuff boss…and thank you

jackfire55 says:

nice vid thanks

alternatorman says:

You can find parts on our web site at alternatorparts.comm. The heavy duty rectifier shown in the video is $49.95

johnstontrpr says:

nice walkthrough…quick question how much does the replacement part cost?
