my 1998 gmc sonoma will crank but go dead. It seems to be getting plenty of gas but fuel pump runsw then when fuel gets there it stops like normal

454something says:

My 4.3 is a 1990 with throttle body injection. It has the same main problem that this Vortec engine had. I can start it but it idles awful and I need to keep it above 2k or so to smooth it out. Also, it seems to be running very rich (much black soot out of exhaust pipe). Before I start buying parts that I may not need, I wanted to see if these TBI engines of that vintage have any common problems of no idle and super rich. I do not own diagnostic or fuel press. testers, etc. Thanks

austin miner says:

it’s your fuel spider under the intake

Nunya Binness says:

ICM Ignition Control Modlue

mrsillyman says:

the very first thing to do is put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail. until you do that you are simply guessing.

i HAVE A 94 S-10 it just started to not wanna run all of the sudden like it is starving for gas will start but dies, changed the fuel filter and it was full of brown gas thought that was the problem but it is not.The fuel pump is electric if it is shot will the truck still start? Im thinking no ,but i have no idea any clues?thanks.

Chet's Jug says:

Your camera wigged out because that solder iron is an electro-magnetic coil. Too close to the camera and that’s what will happen.

Brendaspaperclip says:

Gmc Envoy Blazer 02- I just got this car .. the throttle valve wont even open .. I replaced the throttle assemby .. still the same problem .. anything else i can look for or change ??? (car has no tps)

Joshua Sasso Kane says:

coolant temp sensor. And cracked catlytic converter. Engine throws check engine light do to hairline crack down cat which is loud.

william torres says:

sounds like a o2 senser

mrsillyman says:

pull a spark plug and stick it back in the plug boot and hold the plug against the block with a screwdriver with an insulated handle. have a friend crank it over and verify there is/is not spark. if there is no spark, that is your problem and you should first suspect ignition coil. you can take it off and have it tested for <$10 from an auto parts store to rule it in/out. if that is not your problem, refer back to my videos for other tips.

Why would my truck run and as soon as i get it home it dies!! it is hot so after trying to re start it i turn it on then it shuts right off!!. When cool starts up and stays running HELP!!!

D31ay3d says:

got it fixed! All it was was the distributor was loose, so I re-timed the engine and it runs like a charm now! Thanks for the help!

mrsillyman says:

sounds serious… maybe… is the distributor cap on correctly? is the rotor making the grinding noise? or is the distributor shaft making poor/misaligned contact with the cam gear? I would take the plugs out if it and roll it over with wrench on the fly wheel to see if there is any binding… if there is binding, take the distributor out and recheck…. other than that, I am wondering if you dropped something down in the engine during your gasket job. please let us know the outcom

D31ay3d says:

hey I have an ’02 Sonoma with a 4.3L and I just recently did the intake manifold gasket, and had to re-time the distributor. Now when i try to start it, it will crank and then make a big grinding noise after about a second of cranking. Help! Is my timing off again or am I ruining the engine??

mrsillyman says:

i don’t know how a loose plug would cause an electrical failure… unless it is some kind of auto shut off of the computer due to an ignittion failure it detects… you could always loosen up the plug to satisfy yourself it is or is not related… but it would surprise me if there is any connection.

latinseduction1 says:

ok so i let the truck idle and during my walk around i noticed that one of my spark plugs were extremely loose and bouncin around. i got that all tightened up and took the truck out for a run and the problem is fixed. i dont see how the plug had anything to do with my problem but it is now running like it should. do you think that was the problem?

latinseduction1 says:

ill be pulling it into the garage shortly and try everything stated and ill get back to let you know how it turns out. thank you

mrsillyman says:

even the headlights & radio go out? sounds like a bad ground or loose connection on the battery or fuse panel or wiring harness. Start it and let it idle… then go all around the various places (battery terminals, computer, wire harness, ignition parts, …) and wiggle/tap gently on them and see if you can find out what is causing it to go lights out.

latinseduction1 says:

im having a problem with my truck and i think it has something to do with the ignitiion. itll start everytime but once i get down the road all lights and well everything shuts down for a second than right back up again. sometimes i have to through it back in park and start it back up… Any ideas is to what it might be?

mrsillyman says:

@emmy6423 Diesels are a whole other animal compared to gas from a troubleshooting perspective. A friend of mine has a similar truck. every 6 months one of his battery terminals corrodes and the engine works poorly and stalls. He wire brushes it… and it is good to go again. Long shot… but worth checking. Let us know what you find out. thanks.

mrsillyman says:

please reply with the cause when you sort it out. thanks.

Stephen Bianchi says:

Mine is rich as hell too! Glad I found this as I have a W vin too! Awesome video, thank you very much!!
