Hey Chris, I have a 69 396 Chevelle. I got rid of my old msd magnetic pick up dist. 6al box msd coil replaced with a MSD pro billet hei. It ran like I had half the wires crossed. I replaced the cap/coil no help than module no help than exchanged dist. no help. Than I tried the HEI cap/coil off a $99 dist laying on my shelf and it started and ran fairly good. what possibly could cause it not to run w correct MSD HEI cap? I have one wire to dist. 12volts continuous 10 while cranking.
I trigger my MSD ignition box with a points distributor.
its reading taco corect ever heard about dual grounding? waste spark, dual ignition, back feading, engine run one.
thats what it is.
ore imagine you have a dead flat baterry right.
and you put a baterry charger leads in reverse to charge a dead baterry!
now you + is – and your – is + and you will read at the multy meter a reverse reading.
if you dont have diodes like on that starter R terminal selenoid wire you get reverse curent who will iteract with ground "spiking" and interfeare with your electric apliances they still will work but in some cases in reverse form ore movement!
some older cars culd run with 1 baterry terminal compleately removed that is a hint for you.
starter motor will still run the same way.
but that is reverse polarity ore called dual grounding in fact dual relays can do the same thing to a ignition coil because a ignition coil is not polarity sensitive and if you look at a non electrolitic capacitor "ceramic capacitor" you get lot fun waching those effects evry thing is same but "capacitor/condenser/supresors" are "not the same" and have diferent effects on cars!.
how ever in reverse polarity your alternator will do somthing ells it wont charge a baterry like usualy.
that litel effect shuld peopel see for them self what it does
SOUNDS LIKE A VACUUM LEAK OR CARB RUNNING LEAN
DID YOU SAY 12 VOLTS WHILE CRANKING.
Why not mount the coil horizontally?
Most dependable ignition.
I love this video man you the best
After filing or using emory paper on the points, I always use an un coated, plain business card to clean the abrasive residue off. Just open the points and place the card between them and drag it back out. This will prevent pitting and early carbon build up.
Having a bad day????? Get what's bothering you. It ain't our fault.
I have a 71-350 on the stand ready to go in it,but had this prob with the old 283,cleaning parts now to go back with the 350
I have a 1967 El Camino & was wondering bout that cloth wire, because sometimes the ignition switch won’t turn the engine over,I put a button on it but was wondering if I hooked up the yellow wire if that would help?
My 1972 Buick 350-2 was running perfect last week i replaced the coil with same one you got but i did not no about it coming with a resistor so there is not one anyways it started getting stutter at cruising speeds its really pissing me off because ive checked everything could the points be off? or what happens when they start to go bad? HELP i can give more info if you need
In 1978 I bought my sister and brother-in-law 1970 SS that bought new , on the breather it had a sticker 396/375 hp all stock had 115000 miles on it , 400 the it always ideld at 1100 rpm sitting still in drive.
is there settings on back of tac i have a tac in my truck and it has setting for 4cyc, 6cyc and 8cyc
Thank you! Bought a 72 CS and been trying get it sorted out. Think I got it.
This should be the same principle with a 1980 GM Mercruser 5.7 liter?
What song is that at 11 minutes
Great and helpful man…thank you
