GM New Engines MIGHT Finally Fix This Huge Problem!

GM New Engines MIGHT Finally Fix This Huge Problem!

Lookup reliability data: https://thecarguyonline.com

What is an acceptable engine failure rate in modern manufacturing and how does GM compare right now? The answer might surprise you.

In this video I break down real world failure rates we are seeing with GM 6.2 liter engines and compare that to what is considered normal in modern manufacturing. The gap is massive and raises serious concerns for current buyers.

I also explain why the upcoming 2027 GM engines might actually be worth waiting for. GM is making major changes to their lifter and valvetrain design, moving away from the current setup that has caused so many failures. The new system looks more like what Ford is doing and could be easier to disable electronically while also improving long term reliability.

We go through real failure examples from 2025 and 2026 models including low mileage engine failures, backordered replacements, and even dangerous situations on the road.

If you are thinking about buying a GM truck or SUV right now this is information you need to consider before making a decision.

Would you wait for the new engines or take the risk on current models Let me know in the comments

@daverolf9902 says:

is it a new design motor or the same problem engin

@steveantoniou2150 says:

NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY

@TDub_ADV says:

So you spoke at length about the new design and shutting it off via software. The only caveat is someone being able to crack the encryption to be able to actually do it. GM has been making it harder and harder to do anything software wise with the global b architecture on 2023+ vehicles.

@Gary-x7v says:

screw that dfm crap just run all the cylinders all the time.

@QCJerks says:

I wouldnt trust GM, no. They clearly don't care about their customers. Them changing a little due to lawsuits isn't a win. It's them doing the bare minimum.

@ElCapitan12 says:

I was scared to buy, so I did a two year lease on a High Country Silverado, the. Active exhaust and blue seats got me.

@robm3357 says:

I will not trust GM until I see some 500,000 mile engines on the road

@SamkoTradBow says:

excellent detail and info in this vid

@Tempsho says:

Also make the motors port and direct injection and then maybe….

@williamjbarclayjr says:

I wouldn’t buy a tricycle from General Motors. How can you trust them based on what they’ve done. I will rebuild my 06 Sierra 5.3 original motor with 433,000 miles on it before I would consider anything from GM They have insulted their excellent workers and their customers who pay executive salaries.

@brunonikodemski2420 says:

I am one of the designers of the electronics for the old Cadillac "Modulated Displacement Engine". GM tried to use a common block design, which did not have the correct thermal management for "missing" cylinders, and the Eaton valve unlocking devices were a mechanical disaster, as far as reliability. The whole idea was dropped almost immediately, or as soon as they realized what a disaster it actually was. I still have electronic boards of the original developmental electronics, and can how pictures of them. I also have one solenoid assembly of the Eaton valve lock, kept as a memento when were developing the collateral electronics. Unless the blocks and bearings are designed for the thermal overstressing, I would never buy one of these designs. Same with the Turbos, not quite up to real reliability standards, just looking to have problems.

@gpenrod5221 says:

What is happening with GM is shameful. I have owned multiple GM products over the years and really enjoyed them. But right now? If you gave me a new GM I would probably say screw the warranty and have a reputable engine shop tear down the brand new engine and fix the issues first thing. But then again they are having issues with the transmissions that they decided to put in soft metals into causing them to wear out quicker. Yea, GM has about lost my lifetime loyalty to the brand. I'd even be more tempted right now to buy a Ford. But certainly RAM tops the list right now with trucks. Be hard to get me back to being a GM fan till GM proves they fixed the problems and fix their body styles. Some of them are just yuck boring, like they got in the 1980s decade.

@skyepilotte11 says:

GM…please never build aircraft engines !
You have to be nuts to buy any GM product now or ever !

@CTECH-REVIEW says:

What is the best engine in half ton trucks in 2026?

@gunner9010 says:

I'm keeping my '06 Duramax and recently bought a '07 Toyota convertible. I'll run both until the wheels fall off.

@michaelhawkins5530 says:

Orrrrr, these new engines may introduce new issues the current engines don't have. Or the current problems may carry into the new engines. We don't know because it's all speculation. We need real data on the new engines which will not be available for a couple of years.

@850Reed says:

Are they replacing to old engine with the same engine?

@Hazmat0357 says:

GM. IS. TRASH.

If you’re still buying one then you deserve everything that happens.

@514brent says:

Dealerships should refuse to sell the 6.2 vehicles. They would earn the respect of customers if they were honest about the failures. Some customers are not mechanically inclined and do not keep up with these issues. I kept a coworker from getting one, they my had no idea of the problem.

@SuperSnakePlissken says:

I own a Chick-fil-A restaurant and we actually had one of the GMC Yukon XL’s engine blow up while in the drive-through during lunch.

The poor woman had a vehicle full of kids on a Saturday and everyone told me how the engine just started making horrible clacking and then just seized. I had everybody that could push her vehicle through the rest of the drive-through got her her food we credited it to her for free because of what was going on, and then helped her get a tow truck. She came back and thanked me a week later told me that the engine went out. I felt really bad for her.

@DericO-rz3be says:

Any transmission dumps lately… Bring back the Nate!

@justinsalazar9070 says:

Chevy and ford are garbage!

@Dangman-s8i says:

Why do they insist on building cylinder deactivation in one form or another if no one wants it-and it really doesn't save you any gas in real world driving. Your talking about turning the new system off and how it should be easier to delete before its even built.

@ltethan649 says:

Theres lots of disconnecting rocker designs that work just fine. Rockers are easy to swap just valve covers off.

@summerforever6736 says:

Just as designed!!

@ews360 says:

2027 double cab no longer offered. Reason? Not enough room in this cab configuration to house the mandatory hybrid battery pack behind the back seat.

@demcomp says:

GMC – Generate More Cash

@ews360 says:

Great time to be living in the golden age of renaissance. Active Fuel Management & mandatory hybrid along w/ gas & oil particulate filter to capture all the icky discharge from new next gen 2cycle 5.7 V8
