GM Dealer Made Huge Mistake! $500 Diagnosis & $3900 In Repairs!

GM Dealer Made Huge Mistake! $500 Diagnosis & $3900 In Repairs!

In this video I bring you along as I have a look at a customers 2019 Chevrolet 1500 that was at the local dealer to address a customer complaint of no power steering, ESC and service trailer brake light coming on. They made the call and told the customer that he needed a new rack and pinion, a trailer brake control module and a new transmission control module! That is a $4000 repair! Then they charged him over $900 for diagnosis and “restocking fees” because he wanted a second opinion. Good news is I fixed it for wayyyyyyyy less and only $20 in parts 😉.
-Enjoy!

Nice fixes. But at 35:10, you live in a residential neighborhood, honking might be very annoying to your neighbours, I'd rather install a mirror in the parking lot to see if cars are coming.

Excellent video on modern technology and the real world. There will be more of this in our future, not to mention EV's.

As a retired electronic technician of MANY years (mostly a/v stuff), I can say that whenever I was faced with a complaint that involved multiple and seemingly unrelated problems, the first place I would look was the power supply = the second was the ground.
Cars are getting more and more like what I used to do.
One other thing I would like to say is, the thing that separates good technician from a not so good technician is the ability to troubleshoot, and, you ARE a good technician. It is a great pleasure to watch you work.

You got some good helpers Eric!

I'm not a mechanic. Not even close. Obviously exposed copper in the rust belt would turn green. The moment the video showed the green strap it was "There's your problem lady". How many times has the green crustys the size of a ant caused all kinds of code issue? This thing was green and the size of a snake. "But, of course it's going to turn green". Yeah, but not can't deny the corrosion. I know the HQ is in the rust belt. Where do they DESIGN these thing? Arizona?

Look at all that NYS rust

Great troubleshooting skills. Troubleshooting is more than a skill, it’s an art. I’m a 32 year veteran at AT&T, and not all techs are created equal. You my friend, got it!

Dale Price says:

That was great ! I have a hobby of putting new power trains in older vehicles, pre 1950 and I always load up on extra grounds because of age.

Timothy Tilley says:

The thing I don’t understand, is why do dealerships have such a good reputation with civilians? I have never had a good experience with dealerships. Ever. The are the Kings of Swaptronics! “Heh, has anyone seen the parts cannon? I need it over here!”…

The thing that amazes me, is that when they swap parts out, and don’t resolve the issue. They never give you the money back, they never return the part that wasn’t bad. They just keep charging you until you get fed up and take it somewhere else! Argh!

Find the Eric O. in your area. Small shop, owner operated. Find the one that cares. They are the best. Thanks Eric Os…
