GM Chevy Tailgate Power Latch Replacement

GM Chevy Tailgate Power Latch Replacement

Replacing the rear tailgate of a Yukon Denali is the same for Chevy Tahoe. This is applicable for 2007 through 2014 models only with the power lift rear door.

You can purchase the part from GM – $249 (GM Part# 13581405
You can purchase the exact same part on Amazon” $209: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GUDCVN0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

You can also find cheaper parts on eBay and GMParts.com for around $189.

The cost I quoted for fitting this part was $420 dollars

So this video is dedicated to those who are interested in saving money.

On my 2008 Escalade it opens five with key fob and from inside but it will not close with the key fob or the lift gate button anyone know the problem?

Cassie Cerise says:

My mechanic quoted almost $1,000 to fix this. Motor was $125 w/shipping. Just replaced this in less than half an hour. Thanks for saving me tons of $$$ and making my life so much easier now that this is fixed!

Comarade Lee says:

this is quality video.

Josh C says:

Any one know what the white plastic cord is on the new one? I was hoping this video showed what to do with it but it didnt.

Francesca Patenaude says:

Thanks for the video and for helping fix my tailgate. Perfectly explained.

Marion Scott says:

2008 Chevy Tahoe LTZ. Never worked upon purchase of the vehicle in February. Dealership quoted me $723.95 for this repair. I ordered the latch through a car parts site on a Friday for $96. Got it today (Tuesday) and was installed in 30 minutes (although I did chip that plastic plug casing trying to disconnect it). But it opens automatically using the remote, cabin button, liftgate handle and the button on the liftgate. Thank you so much!!

Burak C says:

What if I don't hear the mechinism ? And it will not unlock even manually from inside the vehicle pressing on the little lever by latch motor. What do I do then…. The other day I could get it to unlock with the key fob but it wouldn't lift up. Now nothing at all happens but the rear lights blonk as if it was going to work… Also now that this issue occurred when I hit the lock door button it no longer beeps to let me know it's locked. I know this all relates to the back hatch as when it was working it would beep

Broderick Johnson says:

I have a 2008 Chevrolet suburban and the rear hatch will stay locked,is tht a bad lock actuator?

meatdogg101 says:

Mine is doing the same thing but mine is not locking when I close it down. Will this latch lock it also?

bobobluemonkey1 says:

We're having an issue similar to this, and I'm trying to figure out if this is the issue. We can't get the manual button on the back of the door to work at all, whether we turn the switch on or off in the vehicle. It will open and close using the switch and/or the key fob, however. The biggest issue is that if we try to close it by hand, then the latch doesn't engage. It makes the sound like it's trying to, but then keeps making the sound and won't actually catch. If we close it via the button or the fob, then it works. Does anyone have any idea what might cause this?

Try the hatch pressure switch it fixed mine

Michael Fuller says:

Thank you for posting this. I went and bought the part and my wife and I installed it. I’m not a handy man. Your video helped me save some money and we had a great time doing it together. Thank you!

clemsonfan says:

You can also buy a strengthened all brass gear for the unit here – http://www.gruvenparts.com/gruvenparts-com-rear-power-lift-gate-strengthened-gears-2006-gm-trucks/

Usually, these units die because this plastic gear strips out. You can save alot of $ and time doing all this again with the gruvenparts.com brass helical spur gear for this unit !

Roger Iwig says:

Thanks so much for posting this. I'm not overly mechanical, and I probably would have taken this to a repair shop. Considering the part alone is $297, they probably would have charged me $600-$800 for the repair. Instead, I bought the part on line, followed your step-by-step instructions and for $297 and about 30 minutes of my time (including ordering the part on-line), the lift gate is working perfectly. Thank you.

Ben Gonzales says:

Everything was right on, I was done in about 20 mins. Perfect explanation and well executed video and commentary. Thanks for the help!

Daisy Marie says:

B. Miller says:

Could you do a video for the exact same problem on a 2015 – 2016 Yukon Denali

jorgejaoe says:

hi if i can't close the liftgate?

Bryan Hauschild says:

We have an 07 Tahoe. It opens part way with handheld buttons and with interior switch and then closes again. But not with external button on liftgate. It will not unlatch in manual with external button on liftgate. I don’t know how to get liftgate open to repair. Any advice?

Ramiro Cortez says:

I need to know how to do the window lock please I've been trying to find a video of how to but the same videos of tailgates

King Moose Moore says:

How do you open the tailgate if it doesn’t open

BoBo says:

I used Martin Gill's method…My cheap shop wanted $375 P&L … Saw EBay part reviews, watched this Naples Media DIY Youtube "GM Chevy Tailgate Power Latch Replacement" video, bought new Dorman part 931-107 on ebay $145, saved $225, 07 Suburban LTZ power liftgate up/down/lock all fixed, only took 20 min! Kids helped and were amazed. I am my wife's Suburban home mechanic hero…LOL!

Derrick says:

Thanks!!! Great explanation of my issue & step by step instructions. Saved me over $300, took 15 minutes.

Joel Cromwell says:

Are lift gate don't open when I push the button I makes a chadering noise and can see the gears they look like they stuck together they are not turn not around each other tike stuck together and making a bad noise and if you where to let go it would slam donned with all its force like nothing is holding it

柔道最高 says:

Awesome video. I thought broken motor, mechanisms or something. It took about 10min. You don't have to take whole panel off. Just pull out latch area and replace.
