DIY Keyfob repair equinox camaro under $10

This particular key fob is for a 2010 Equinox. There are multiple vehicles from GM that use this style key and they all have the same issues. In this video I show how to replaced the case and make the key fob like new. Parts and tools are listed below. I left the part in where the punch broke. I could have reshot that part but wanted to show that stuff happens. Just adapt and make it work. Dont forget to subscribe to the channel and hit the bell for updates. Thanks to all the support and thanks for tuning in.

Thanks for your help. It took more effort than I thought it would but you assisted greatly. The makers of this product should link to your video!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! My husband's fob's lock feature went bad months ago and I could not talk him into buying a new one. I started looking on Youtube to see if we could figure out how to program it if we bought a new fob and had a locksmith cut it…. that's how I found your video! Thanks for the link for the correct fob shell for our 2013 Equinox…. hubby knew it was doable but couldn't find just the shell. Plus he didn't have to punch the pin out to make it work. He was so happy! Now he has a new fob that works great! Thanks again!

There's a screw under the Chevy emblem…that's why the original is so hard to separate.

BEWARE!! Aussie VF 2014 commodore fob is solid plastic case. Bought replacement case from remote pro, had to nearly kill myself with stanley knife getting the insides out, then placed in new case now NOTHING WORKS. Car has done only 42,000 k's – both fobs broken. GM SHOULD BE SUED FOR THE DESIGN FAILINGS OF THIS FOB.

Did this to my Wife's key now the unlock button isn't working. Any clues?

Steven Cannedy says:

Couldn't you just swap the whole key instead of knocking the roll pin out?

I suppose if you want to save $5 and 30 mins reprogramming a new key, this method works. Compared to buying a new key fob (not just the fob shell) & simply swapping your key with the uncut key, this is a lot of effort for little differences & no additional payoff.
