Thanks. Sadly mine is the pivot pins holes are worn. New steering column assembly on the way. 200.00 dollars. OUCH!

TheCowGoesMoo o says:

Yeah i figured it out, my dad had an extra column laying around and it fit, the problem was, was that first off the copper circuit board wasn’t even there and second I guess the owners before hand decided to take the original steering wheel off and doing that, my guess is they cut the wire, left the original circuit along with the wheel and found one without the copper that fit. So now we just need to connect the wheel now that we have the correct parts and it’ll work.

supercalo79 says:

Yes! Yes I did. Bought some bearings online. It was just a little meticulous but things are back to normal. Thanks

1Patient says:

Wish I had a 64 Chevy…. 🙁

1Patient says:

Did you get that bearing back in? I would get the bearings back into the ring and pack it with grease to hold them in the ring then seat that onto the bearing race careful not to dislodge any of the bearings. Maybe just buy a new bearing?

1Patient says:

I have an after-market steering wheel mounted on the Column, so a couple of proprietary differences, the wire and copper colored circular circuit board are for the horn of that steering wheel, everything under the black cover plate is the guts of the original column. Is it possible that your horn wire was ripped out and or just not there?

1Patient says:

I drove my vehicle with loose wheel for over a year, once I tightened up those 4 bolts everything came together tightened right up. Was the Spring and Retainer Clip properly installed? Were all the Bearings Re-Seated properly, is it possible the ball joint got some ware on it? Sorry Bud, wish I could be of more help to ya…

dibdevlon says:

I just did this on my 02 T/A and still have the same problem. Almost seems worse.

TheCowGoesMoo o says:

Could you do a video on the horn, I have a 1969 chevelle and I don’t even know were to begin with all the wiring of the horn throughout the steering wheel to the column to the horns. When I took the steering wheel off there were no wires connecting. The first part were you took the vice grip and a hammer and pulled the tri piece (idk what it’s called) there wasn’t even a copper board behind it, it’s just that piece and I know you need one with it. So I’m i screwed do I need a new column?

supercalo79 says:

great choice of soundtrack. the inner bearing on my 75 chevy came apart while doing some work. how should i go about putting the bearings back in place?

brad04970 says:

I sure wish wish you were taking a part the turn Signal assembly on a 64 chevy. nice job

1Patient says:

You will need a pick to remove the c-clip to get down to the first set of bearings, i.e., the “Upper” bearing will be the first one you will come into contact with. You will have to go as far as the turn signal removal, and behind that is another plastic part that has to be removed before you get access to the bearings, Hope this helps.

1Patient says:

Yes, and I went to pick and pull and got a second Bezel, and arranged it so I could get four more gauges into the cluster… however, I am probably going to make one out of a piece of flat aluminum and paint it up,

Juan Ortiz says:

Did you intall those autometer gauges on the original dash/bezel?
BTW nice video.

Van Thomas says:

working on a 1985 oldsmobile with tilt steering. How would i replace the upper front bearings? And what tools would be necessary?

1Patient says:

Needle nose pliers, push in and turn a 1/4 or 1/2 turn counter clockwise to loosen, keep pressure on it while turning. Mine seemed a little gummed up with old grease, I just cleaned it a little and pumped more newer grease in there… any other questions feel free to ask… later dude.

Zachary Manney says:

What did you use and how did you remove the tilt spring retainer ?
I have a 74 elky that im at a loss with

standish62 says:

Doing a stolen/ recovered repair on the ignition linkage. Its back together and working, but I broke the horn plastic, so I ‘ll fix that later. Particularly helpful was the spring+ fittings order. When that fell out, I had no idea- thought the springs went in between each fitting.

1Patient says:

What would you like me to say in this email Marco?

1Patient says:

Hey there standish, the song is from a band called Tool. Songs a bit heavy…
Hope your steering column job is going well.

MARCO VAZQUEZ says:
