Followed this video exactly. Repair shop wanted $410 to do this. Cost to me
$170 and an hour work. Was correct about having to remove part of the
coolant tank. Didn’t have to remove completely, just the front hoses and
screw. Then you can get the front bolt off. Saved me some serious cash.
Kudos!
Thanks so much for posting this!!
Made the Job so easy!!!
OMG thanks so much! On my 04 taurus the overflow bottle was shaped
slightly differently on the top and gave just enough room to pull out the
bolt. I couldn’t figure out how to get the belt off. This solved that for
me. Thanks!
great video. just changed the alternator on my 96 taurus today. I was
afraid that I was going to have to take the radiator overflow out but it
was low enough to let the bolt pass over and out. you saved me a lot of
money.
Just like a ‘paint by number’ exercise. Couldn’t have been simpler. I had
the minor interference with the degassing tank. And I ended up renting a
serpentine belt removal bar. In the 07 Taurus I just couldn’t get anything
on it with leverage. It was super tight! I’ve used your videos on other
projects .. trucks. And they are lifesavers. REALLY! Thanks..
Not a replacement bolt, ran into same problem today. Really wish I had came
back and watched this video RIGHT before I started so i would have been
turning the belt tensioner bolt clockwise instead of trying to unscrew it
and wondering why the belt wasn’t getting loose! lol
Be sure to make a belt routing diagram. A lot of these Taurus’ did not have
a diagram under the hood.
You just saved me a good chunk of change, thanks a lot!
I want to thank you so much for this video! I learned a lot by doing this
myself on my 2003 Taurus SES and you saved me a lot of $ because I did it
all by myself like a BIG BOY! LOL! Thanks Again, God Bless!
The vehicles electricals require a particular amperage for the system to
operate correctly. I don’t see the voltage regulator for a different car
working for very long on your taurus.
@pualoke03 You’re welcome. Thank you for watching our how to videos.
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows that particular
repair.
It should be pretty much the same. There’s usually only two-three bolts
that hold most alternators in place on most vehicles.
You could try spraying a little penetrating oil on that stubborn bolt such
as PB Blaster. That should help to free it up for you. Hope this helps you
out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Can a power steering pulley make the noise too?
Such a well produced video and very informative.
Thank you so much… Helped me fix my son’s 2002 and it was nice to see it
before doing it. Putting on the belt was the worst part!!!
Exellent Video!! Thanks for sharing… I dont see how 5 people did not
appreciate it
How similar is this engine to a Mercury Sable? Looking to maybe replace my
wifes alternator on an old 2004 Mercury Sable.
Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
The visual aspect of doing this job was the most helpful! Thank you for
posting this information!
This video saved me a lot of time and money! The only thing that didn’t
work out for me was using both wrenches to loosen the pulley. I used a
section of PVC pipe slipped over the wrench to get the extra leverage
needed to loosen and reapply the belts. This is often referred to as a
“cheater bar”. A longer handled ratchet or wrench would have worked, but I
had to improvise there in the gas station parking lot.
The front long mounting bolt , extracted until it meets the coolant bottle
can stay in place. just tilt the alt slightly along it’s axis and the alt
will come out. The spacer within the alt mtng brkt can be moved if
required, generally doesnt require it. Nice video.
Hi! I have an 07 ford taurus with a 3.0. I am having voltage spike all over
the place, so I’m presuming a bad voltage regulator on the alternator. I’m
about 2minutes away from going to O’Reiley’s and buying a Voltage regulator
from a 72 Ford Pinto. I know this is a bandaid job, but I don’t have $300
for a new alternator. Do you see any immediate concerns in doing this?
Thanks.
This is awesome !! Im going to do it on my own after Christmas! Thanks for
posting this 🙂
