If your 1996 Ford Explorer is a USA or Canada built vehicle then you cannot replace the pump inside of the module. It is a sealed assembly & you will need to purchase an E2059MN. If it is a Mexico built vehicle then you can replace the pump. But based on your comments it sounds like you do not have a Mexico built vehicle. An easy way to find out where your vehicle was built is by the VIN. If it starts with 1F=USA; 2F=Canada; 3F=Mexico. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

This is all fine and good, but what if you want to replace the pump inside the assembly ONLY? This is my dilemma. And the pump I ordered doesn’t fit. Wondering if there is a new style or something to my ’96 Explorer. Old one uses a shorter steel tube and connects with spade connectors, not the 2-pin plug type. Frustrated.

They always told me that there was no such thing as a dumb question so i’ll ask one! The clipped wires aren’t a hazzard when re-inserted to the tank full of fuel? Just wondering why when power is added it doesn’t cause ignition.

Thank you very much for this video! My front tank went out on my ’95, glad I was able to find an informative video like this, might go out and get an Airtex now 🙂

No, in 1997 Ford changed the design of the fuel pump for the F series trucks. We do have videos for that application, depending on the engine size & wheelbase. You can visit our Fuel Pump U website to look up the correct fuel pump for your application & view the installation video that is provided there. Thanks for watching.

I have 97 is it the same?

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Hello Nathan, Unfortunately we do not offer the complete sending unit assembly for your application. Unsure what other companies are offering, but the wiring connector will need to be the same to fit correctly. If we can help in any other way please feel free to contact us. Thanks.

on my 1993 f150 xlt 5.0 has a 4 pin connector on the tank not a round one and I’m having trouble finding the wright one i found a 1990-1991 SENDING UNIT-W/PUMP from JC Whitney and just wondering if it was what im looking for

AirtexFuelPumps says:

There are two different pumps available for your application depending on the tank size & material. If you have a center tank or a rear plastic tank you will need an E2059MN. If you have a rear steel tank you will need an E2064MN. So in your case you will need an E2059MN for the front tank & an E2064MN for the rear tank. You will not be able to use one for the other as the configuration of these pumps are different. Hope this helps. Thanks.

If both tanks on my 96 are metal, they are supposed both be 18 gallon. so ones with plastic tanks are 18 in front and 19 in back? Can you confirm this? my rear float still works so I want to replace the rear pump first, is it basically the same?

AirtexFuelPumps says:

The E2059MN is for all center tanks and for 19 gallon rear plastic tank.
For 18 gallon rear steel tanks you would need an E2064MN. I will email you this answer, as well. Thanks for watching.

The tube will go back into the tank but sometimes it can be very difficult. There is not really any trick I have to help. You just have to work it into the tank. If you need anymore help please call the Tech Line: 800-424-7839 & we will try to help more. Thanks for watching

Very informative video. Helped with the installation of the Airtex on my f150. One problem though. I removed the filler hose from the tank, but not from the filler neck. The end of the hose refuses to go back on the the tank. I’ve fought like hell and I’m afraid to break the plastic inlet tube. I decided to try to remove it from the neck, put the vent hose on first and feed it up over the inlet tube like in this video. But I can’t even get the tube out of the vent hose to do this. Help!

The title states 1995-1996 Ford Explorer, but the video states Ford F-150. Please change that. Thanks.
