DIY Repairing Retaining Clip on Ford E250 Van Wiper Linkage On the Motor Shaft #HowToBasics

This is a basic How To / DIY Video to show you how to remove the wiper motor & linkage assembly on a 07 Ford E250 Cargo Van to repair or replace the linkage retaining clip that secured the linkage on the shaft of the wiper motor. In this video I saved the customer money, another mechanic rigged the clip with what appeared to be Quick Steel, JB Weld or some kind of putty for $40 and it failed after 2 days. He was referee to me, so I didn’t charge anything. You can buy new retaining clips but you can also bend the arms to hold better tension if you need on the road now with minimum waiting. Plus the customer can Do It Himself if he wants to replace the clip.
I used a Pittsburgh Pro 3/8” Thumbwheel ratchet, 3” extension, a 3/8” drive Blackhawk Phillips #2 bit socket for removing the screws on the cover for fast, easy removal
APittsburgh 3/8” drive Stubby round head Flex ratchet, 3/8” Teq Pro T-30 Torx bit socket to remove/install the wiper arm mount screws, GearWrench 1/4” ratchet, locking extension, 8mm DEEPWALL socket to remove the wiper motor
A Craftsman screwdriver & Kobalt Side-cutters & long nose pliers to adjust the tension on the retainer clip and you might need a flat head screwdriver to remove the wiper arms themselves
I hope this basic video helps show someone how to save some money, do it yourself & Make Repairs Great Again

Craig Baxter says:

Where can I get the retaining clip in your windshield video here in Connecticut I can't even find one in a junkyard or dealership

george linton says:

Man, exactly what info I needed and it worked perfectly on my 2001 e350.
Thanks

MQ Murphy says:

Okay – I put it all back together aaaaaand…….it worked! Thanks so much. Two suggestions – did the job with the hood closed, had somewhere to lean my arms. Also, shot WD40 into that little socket where the motor pivot goes – clicked easy.

MQ Murphy says:

Whoa! Exactly what I needed to do. Dropped my van off at mechanic last week with a list of things. Wiper linkage was one thing they didn't get to.

chuck chartraw says:

Excuse me if this sounds dumb, but why not zip off the top off the female portion where the clip slides through, put the shaft thru, drop a flat washer on it and drill a small hole through the shaft and use a cotter pin? I've done it on a few ford clutch rod connections to replace the stupid plastic clip with 100% success. Going out now to give it a shot on this wiper arm connection.

shilohii says:

You brilliant and entertaining! Thanks!

Ed White says:

Im thinking that needs a little oil…

Randy Hawkins says:

Good luck finding the stupid clip. Been to 5 major auto part stores and they cant cross it. My van is sitting till I order one online. Ford did this on purpose.

fiddlerpin says:

It’s a Ford. Nothing but junk.

Jim Baranski says:

DYNAMITE! Quickly showed everything that needed to be done and explained it well!

Doug Duwenhoegger says:

Worked like a charm. The passenger side wouldn't budge sonI pulled the whole clip assembly off the arm. Straightened the clip. Out everything back together. Wipers!

Steve Thompson says:

Ford uses some really stupid engineering on My 1982 F 150 they use a special clip to hold the arms on when could have just used a metal washer an a Carter pin

vapdivrr says:

How would one go about pulling the motor out if that clip is intact and connected to the shaft? My wipers went out, but it's a bushing that failed on the passenger side wiper linkage. Do I simply have to feel under the motor and try to slide away that clip? Thank you
