The factory exhaust valves on the Ferrari 458 (or almost any Ferrari for that matter) are vacuum actuated. They can make the car sound very quiet which is perhaps nice only when you are trying to be nice to your neighbors or start the car up early in the morning. The rest of the time you likely want it to be loud and proud!
The good news is that to disable the exhaust valves is very simple. All you have to do is pull the vacuum hose that controls the valves, and plug it up. That’s it! No check engine light, no more quiet car, no worries. Best of all it’s free and very easy to do it yourself.
My friend Fred invited me over to his house so we could pull the exhaust valves on his Ferrari 458. This was his first time wrenching on a Ferrari. The project only took about 15 minutes and Fred was very pleased with the results! Thanks Fred!

Can install remote controlled solenoid valve instead?
Excellent vid. My other Ferrari’s sound better than my 458 until the baffles open. I know what my Sunday morning project will be. Peace
Thank you so much for this mod.
You know you guys could just unplug the solenoid and avoid cutting and plugging hoses.
SUENA PRSIOSO PERO Me gusta mas el sonido original
So what mod is this called Mr. Dan?
I did this on my 360CS, but it was so painfully loud and it just didnt sound nice. It sounded terrible. I plugged it back in 🙂
Love the Weimaraner. Good looking dog.
I can't believe that these cars don't just come with the valves open from the factory?!?!
I have a 458 and have the issue. not load enough… Are you sure it will not throw a check engine or any lights??? Thank you
Santa Clarita, CA?
Haha, cool plate!
Brush your hair Fred!
Hey Fred, how is that battery going for you???
Dan, I like Fred's Ferrari, but I like yours more. 🙂
If I was to get a Ferrari, I would prefer the hard top instead of the convertible, but this car is still pretty cool. Nice video.
It was great meeting you at Bob's. Your Ferrari is really nice.
I love that plate!
Reckon you could do this to a California?
Hi Dan when your remove the vacuüm hoses do you need do open the valve position . You speak About plug up the hoses i read with golf tees ? And dan use hose Clamp to ty it up. . Nice video
Hey Dan, I have a Detomaso Pantera GT5 and a Ferrari 348 Spider with aftermarket X-ost. Looking at a 458 in the future. I was thinking of selling the 348 (owned for 11 yrs) and getting the 458 but can't make up my mind if I should keep the 348 as well but not fond of engine out maint. I have a 2 car garage and would need to rent a garage space for the 3rd car. What would you do? Life choices 🙂
Loving the early 60's Beetle in the back!
Haha! Finally someone who realizes blocking out the tag is rather pointless. It's just a way for the man to keep tabs.
Golf tee makes a great pluf
While I'm not a convertible car guy I do think the 458 looks bad ass in a spyder particularly with the top up.
