In case no one knows, Dodge issued a recall for this problem. Believe it or not, it's a software issue — this actuator is computer controlled, and your truck needs a firmware update! So you can replace the actuator or turn that gear around if you want to, but the problem WILL happen again. My 2009 RAM 1500 has 41,000 miles on it and this has happened twice already.
Thank you, this made it easy for me to change out on my 2009 Dodge. But the only difference is since I have the AC outlet you have to unscrew a screw that is by it before you pull out the dash.

My truck is a Laramie, so it has the center console…. Can I do this by just removing the glove box? Or do I need to remove the whole center console?

Were you getting a buzzing noise at startup prior to this repair? Was the defrost blowing before the fix?
