Consider all aspects of safety when performing this work. You are responsible. This video demonstrates how I was able to remove and replace my door lock actuator using tools listed above.

It is suggested that if you are replacing your door lock mechanism as a first step to fix your door lock actuator that is not working to instead inspect the wiring. The wiring through the doors fails more frequently than the door lock actuator itself. I will have a new video out soon detailing this inspection process.

This video is specifically for the rear driver side door in a Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab Laramie. It also works for models 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, Dodge Ram 2500, Dodge Ram 3500. The technique is similar for the other doors. You will need to remove the door panel, disconnect wiring harnesses from the panel, remove the weather shield, disconnect the connecting rods, remove the actuator, install the new actuator, connect the connecting rods, reinstall the weather shield, connect the wiring harnesses, install the panel and the door handle. The front doors have some added complication because of the extra wiring harnesses.

Changing out my wiring harness 05' Ram and could't get the freakin' plug loose from the actuator.
Your inside the door video was perfect and I said if this Man can get his big hands in there I sure can get my bony fingers in there!

This is the best video ever !!!

Donnie Whitley says:

Insightful however you left out one little thing..the easiest way to remove the plastic door liner is with a hairdryer or heat gun warms up the glue for easier removal and replacement..

gunnere5 says:

So In case anyone is interested. It will run anywhere from 300 to 400 dollars per door if this is done by a shop. Doing it yourself is a major savings

RICK CAMPBELL says:

I was not looking forward to this but it actually wasn't to bad. Thanks for making the video

Richard Bess says:

Followed the instructions, installed new actuator and was putting speaker back in place when it started pouring rain…. so i closed the door so I could take a break and come back to it later, and now the door won't open, at all. It's acting like the lock is engaged. Have taken the insulating plastic back off and pulled on all the rods/levers trying to get the darn thing to release but nothing works. Wondering if it could be that I somehow reversed the wiring plug when I hooked it into the actuator (however, seems unlikely since it really only fits one way). Any advice is appreciated. Especially if it saves an embarrassing trip to the mechanic/body shop.

Good job man

El South Texas Gentleman says:

I was pretty intimidated to do this myself as I have never really worked on my own vehicle. I have an 05 Ram 3500 SLT. The actuator gave out. This video was my lifeline to getting my door back and running. Thank you so much for the video!

InjunChief says:

When your actuator stopped working did it make a loud screeching sound every time you locked the doors??
