How to Install Upgraded Rocker Arms on a Jeep, Dodge 3.7 & 4.7

How to Install Upgraded Rocker Arms on a Jeep, Dodge 3.7 & 4.7

In this video, I’ll explain the benefits of the 05 and later rocker arm and show how to install these upgraded rocker arms. This also a great time to replace the lash adjusters (lifters) if there is any lifter tick. Also, show you how they operate with the engine running. With an epic fail but funny.

Misadventures with the Marty's says:

Hey Martin
Love this video. When upgrading the rocker arms can the extra pressure do damage?

Ron Woody says:

hello martin, I love your work on the 3.7 engine, I have a 2012 jeep liberty and done a little work to it. I'm still getting a PO301 code on cylinder one, I put in new spark plugs gapped at 45 degrees. and new wires new coil packs. and I'm still getting the code PO301. could it be a bad rocker arm? Ron.W. long island N.Y.

Root Beer Nineteen says:

The newer ones seem to promote slower leakdown as well.

Richard Seaman says:

Martin have you heard of putting a washer under the lash adjuster .030 – .040 to prevent the rocker arms coming off ?
Also when upgrading to the newer style rocker arms, are newer style lash adjusters available as well , was there a design change in the lash adjusters.
Mine is 2000 4.7

Gary Smythe says:

Great video Martin! I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. It started to miss then cleared up for a couple weeks. A couple days ago i went to town about 10 miles away for lunch with my wife and the car ran great on the way down there but after lunch it started to miss when first started but cleared up after a few engine revvings . After driving half way home on surface streets the engine started to miss again. With a car in front of me and behind me with no place to pull over I continued on and the engine started missing on more and more cylinders. By the time I got home it felt like it was running on one cylinder. Had the vehicle towed back into town to a recommended repair shop and the mechanic told me it has no compression on #1 cylinder! I've owned the vehicle since new and always used synthetic oil in the engine. However, the vehicle has 159000 miles on it and I have not changed the spark plugs since 60000 miles. Mechanic said I need a new engine. Mechanic said new engine would cost around $6k installed. Can't afford!!! I had the vehicle towed back to my house and not sure what to do. What would you do? One more bit of information, the engine has never over heated and no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant. Everything besides the engine works fine! Again what wood you do?!

James Viehmann says:

Wow! Glad now that I bagged and tagged those rocker arms off that 08 Durango that I got the cams and intake off of yesterday at the Pull A Part! Excellent demo on the rocker arm to cam lobe oiling. This whole set up will find its way onto my 03 Durango! Thanks for the heads up Martin!

bdickers8 says:

Great video, thank you. I have a set of new lash adjusters that are easily compressed with my hand, is that normal? Based on your comments in the video this sounds like an issue and didn't want to get these in just to replace them after startup (nice WJ btw).

Bobby T199 says:

Martin I have code P0305 misfire Could I have a rocker arm falling off. It is 2006 4.7 jeep commander I changed the coil and spark plug.

Matt M. says:

Thanks for the info it helps…

Reed Boles says:

Installed new style rockers and new lifters two weeks ago. Still get clatter at startup. Even if it’s been sitting for an hour. Any idea on this?

D.A.T. Express Test says:

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango and I thought that the timing chain was gone. I took off the front cover and the valve covers and a few of the rocker arms Were in the head but when I cranked it it’s sounded like the motor was spinning freely with no compression what is the fix?
