How to Easily Fix Stalling and Hesitation When Accelerating 2001 Dodge Ram Van 5.9 Gas Engine

How to Easily Fix & Repair Stalling and Hesitation During Acceleration and even Shut Downs on a Dodge Ram Van 3500 5.9 gas engine by a simple easy Replacement of IAC, TPS, and MAP Sensors on the throttle body.
And a Thorough Throttle Body Cleaning.
NOTE:
WHEN USING THROTTLE BODY CLEANER, MAKE SURE NOT TO USE THROTTLE BODY CLEANER ON OR AROUND SENSORS, AS IT MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO SOME.
DO THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANING AFTER THE OLD SENSORS ARE OUT, AND BEFORE YOU PUT THE NEW ONES IN.
Its only 2 screws to pop each sensor out, and set aside.

Doing these repairs will save you anywhere from $100-$300, in labor cost, plus the priceless chance of getting stranded, or gettin towed to a shop.
Learn your vehicle. its easy, and easier if you understand it.

Hopefully this is informative enough so that it builds self-confidence and shows you how easy it really is to do this repair by yourself.
………………

Failure of the Throttle Body Sensors will cause Sluggish Performance, Stalls, Hesitation / Delayed Acceleration, Quits / Stops, Poor and Weak Idle, Can Shift Strange.
Watch and see how simple, quick and low cost this repair is, this is something you could do every 50k miles, 25k miles, depending on dirty conditions.
But if your at 100k miles without it ever changing these, then do It.
Why pay someone to do this simple repair. Just Know your vehicle.

Here is the Super Very Easy Fix to all those symptoms and to get it back to spec and Top Running Conditions / Just Like New Again.
AND…. Re-gain Fuel Efficiency Also 🙂
《I Gained around 3 MPG, and with 10 MPG as a past normal standard the last 60k miles, that’s a HUGE MPG Increase for me》My Best increase ever, in its last 60k miles.

The IAC (Idle Air Control) is about $30, the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) about $40, and the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) is $80-90, for this vehicle, if bought at Auto Zone.

I used Duralast Parts on this project, as they have a great warranty.
We will see as time goes forward.

Online/E-Bay, one can find the MAP sensor for about $15. (Cheap China, don’t expect it to last, if it even fits the vehcles wiring plug and if it even works for too long).
Just do it right the 1st time…Use Duralast ($90) That MAP is kinda pricey.

Throttle Body Cleaned, IAC, TPS, and MAP replaced. SUCCESS 🙂

In all the 80k miles I have owned and drove this vehicle, I’ve never gotten better than 10.5 to 12 MPG highway. And now… I am averaging 14 MPG city and highway mixed.

I can’t wait to see my new highway average MPG after a tankful or two of solid continous highway driving.

Thank you so much for posting this video! I have a bad IAC was going to take it to the shop and pay 204.00 to have it replaced. No one has ever accused me of being a mechanic, but I think even I can do this! Very good video. Subscribing.

Outstanding video RoadTrip Eddie.  I have a 1999, B-3500 with a 5.9L with 126k miles.  Don't use the van too often so have been fighting this problem since last year.  Funny thing…ran fine in cold weather all winter, but last summer and this year it will make the 10 mile trip to a store fine.  When returning it would die out and not want to run unless I pulled the PCV out???  Anyway I intend to try your suggestions.  Compliments on a very clean engine.
